Oh windows 10

WINDOOOOOOOWS 10, why you're so rage inducing?!!!!!!!???!?!?

The story: I was boosting a toon in crucible for quick and dirty devotion points, lvl100 on PC doing the runs, lvl1 guy on laptop (you can host over lan, on same network, from same steam account running in off-line). Windows 10 decides that 'it's glorious update time' and just force restarts the laptop without any 'is this a good time to restart?' notifications  sure windows 10, restart, it's not like I had apps running D: piece of fucking shit hope you *%^&*^)(^&^%&*^ 4 year old laptop, sure, I can wait for ~30mins for you to do whatever $%^&*()(*&&%%&^)(&^%^( uhh

phew, better.

Just to save you future problems like this. Windows 10 has a setting where you can tell windows NOT to run any updates...including not sneaking any in when you restart. ;)

In Settings > Update > "Change Active Hours" link about half way down the centre of the page and you get this option box.... Reduces these stressful moments :D

Edit...yep mine is set for overnight to not update.

I'm aware of that setting, don't use the laptop that often so never bother changing... ;(

that setting is a lie

it will just reboot if you skipped it sometimes.........

Run this:
Code:

Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings" -Name "UxOption" -Type DWord -Value 1
(disables Windows Update automatic restart)

sorry this is for server 2016

It's a classic PEBKAC error.

Windows will ignore it for what they call "critical updates", much fun when you're playing something when that happens.

Just to clarify, I borrowed the laptop from a family member so stop with your PEBKAC errors nerds :D
