tagLoreObj_Conscripts-Basin01Text=We should not be here.{^n}{^n}Since arriving, the men have grown restless. The water is not safe; one of our men fell into the tranquil lime-like waters during the construction of our dam and died in minutes, well before we could recover his body. The air is thick and low to the ground. It is as though this area is consistently in a calm before a storm.{^n}{^n}Three days ago, one of our men vanished overnight. Yesterday we discovered him impaled to one of the old Giants' structures. There is a power here that this age has not seen before, and we do not mean the Aetherials using this basin as a storage facility, nor the Chthonians trying to destroy it. Before their invasion, something had exterminated the Slith from this basin, and before them the Giants were purged. If we are not quick, we will be next.{^n}{^n}Captains Blake and Godfrey will want a report of the Chthonians, no doubt. Our trek through the Thrall did not intimately involve us with them, but the spread of Obsidian, the new basis for their corruption, was already beginning to overtake areas of the Thrall. We removed what we could, but the source of the Obsidian no doubt remained intact. They'll be here in the basin before long, which only makes us want to work faster.

tagLoreObj_Conscripts-Basin02Text=One of the men spotted it on our way down from the Thrall. We thought for sure that this was the site the Aetherials were using. We were wrong.{^n}{^n}The island emanated power untold. From afar we spotted the corpse of a Giant, and from closer up we saw one of a Slith. We thought it to be an old place of worship, perhaps. No, it was not a place of worship, at least not for the sane; it is a citadel of horrific evil with limitless power. Nothing we have seen from the Aetherials or Chthonians stands to match the terror the island can instill.{^n}{^n}The first man to set foot upon the island immediately burst into flame. Two raced after his flailing incendiary form; the first was evaporated into a shower of blood, the second was smashed into the ground with body-shattering force. His head was just as quickly whipped off his shoulders from metal pikes which rose from the ground of the island. At that point, the burning man finally died. When he fell, the flames raced from his body, attacking those that had not set foot upon the island. In a panic, we raced back to the safety of our wooden archipelago. Some men fell into the waters below, which had been safe ever since we built the dam. But now those waters were boiling, and we lost those men as consequence.{^n}{^n}The Aetherials could not be utilizing that island for their storage; they would be wrought upon the earth for doing so. We had no name for what we encountered, then; we of the West only recalled tales of the Ascendants and some Primordials. This will which we had disturbed supersceded any 'God' we were familiar with.

tagLoreObj_Conscripts-Basin03Text=We've seen what the Taken are capable of, you lot moreso than others. A single Taken buried your leader in the West, which is why you're here. They have posed significant tactical problems for us to overcome, but have also proven capable of greatness for mankind. They are more potent than any Aetherial Terraformer or Obsidian Defiler. And they can be ours.{^n}{^n}We have reports of the Aetherials stashing their Taken in the Basin of the Giants. It seems their supply of humans has run its course so they're no longer making deposits, only withdrawals. Well it's time we make a withdrawl of our own. If you want to be free men again, free from the shadow of your former leader, make your way into the Basin and extract us a Taken. Our contact in the West tells us that a Taken can be brought back to our side by forcing the Aetherial out of its body due to the prospect of death. I'm sure Cronley's Gang can think of a way to threaten it so.{^n}{^n}Captain Godfrey
