Components are a special type of item which only provides its bonuses once you apply it to another piece of equipment. Every item in the game, with the exception of Relics, can have a Component applied to them, regardless of item quality. Each Component has restrictions as to what items types it can be applied to. There are over 80 Components to be discovered in Grim Dawn.
Components drop in the form of fragments from the various inhabitants of Cairn, which must be combined in order to bring out their full potential. Many monsters have a higher chance of dropping specific Components, so your hunt can be focused. Whenever you successfully complete a component, it generates an additional random Completion Bonus.
Legends speak of rare Components teeming with ancient power. These Components are much harder to complete, but their bonuses are well worth the effort.
Components that go into weapons have a special distinction in that they all grant a unique active skill when completed. These skills offer a wide variety of options that can complement any play style. Find the components that work for you!Combining Partial Components
To combine Partial Components, right-click on a Component in your inventory and then left-click on another copy of the same Component. This will combine the two fragments and increment the Parts out of Complete value on the Component. When you combine enough fragments, the Component will be completed and generate a bonus.
Alternatively, you can use the Auto-Combine button located to the top left of the Inventory. This will automatically combine all matching Components in your inventory. This functionality is also available in your stash and in your side bags.Attaching Components
To apply a Component to an item, right-click it and then then left-click on an item you wish to attach it to. You will see a confirmation dialogue to confirm your decision.
Note that you can apply Partial Components to items as well as completed Components. If you apply a Partial Component, you can later apply additional copies of the same Partial Components to the item to complete it.Removing Components
There may come a time when you wish to change the Component you have attached to an item, or perhaps you wish to reuse a Component for a new item you have found. This is a service provided by the Inventor.
Note that you can either recover the item or the Component, not both.
