Default movement speed

I have recommended TQ to many friends. For those who have not like the game, the main criticism was the slow and "sluggish" action (compared to D2 of course, D2 seems the only decent ARPG game for a lot of people ).
Well, with a decent stuff and level, TQ action become quite nervous, but it's not the case in the beginning.
Medierra already said that GD action would be more frenzied, but what about the movement speed ? In TQ, without any gear, the toon is very slow in my opinion. And with proper +X% movement speed equipements, it become a lot faster (sometimes too much).
What is your opinion ? Do you think the default movement speed should be improved ?

There may be just too much range in movement speed in TQ. Perhaps the baseline movement speed should be a bit faster, and the maximum movement speed a bit slower.

I fail to see the problem here; If you feel your character is moving too slowly, equip something that increases movement speed.

Everybody has a different opinion on what is a pleasant starting value for movement speed and what is the appropriate maximum so I fail to see how the game could be ultimately improved in any way by just grabbing a random opinion and acting on it, especially when everyone can tweak these values quite easily by tweaking the database, there's no reason to start gambling on wether or not one persons ideal values suits everyone.

As you said, in TQ you felt too slow with the base value but too fast with the max value; thus the system was already producing pretty much ideal conditions for you by providing an aspect you wanted to improve and letting you improve it to your own ideal value without hitting the limit or having to make huge sacrifices in order to reach it. The real question is: Why aren't you content with the ideal conditions?

Because at the start of a game, there's little to no access to items that increase movement speed, and the main character runs as slow as a fat kid tripping over his own belly.

As I said, the same applies to every single aspect of the game related to character developement, not only does it act as a incentive for developing your character, but also makes makes it feel that there is some developement; Take Yggdrasil as an example: for him the base movement speed is too slow, so he will be wanting some movement speed enhancing things on him and will be pleased once he does, however, he also feels that the maximum speed is too high, so he won't be amassing movement speed enhancing things. If you were to raise the base movement speed to a level that was enough for him right off the bat, you would effectively make movement speed enhancing stuff not only unnecessary, but undesireable for him. What's the point of that?

I also said everyone has different opinion about this based on personal preferences and that it is very easy for everyone to change the values to their own liking, as tweaking the default values from whatever the developers want them to be to provide the intended pace for the game based on some random opinion will ultimately solve nothing.

Can't say it better.

Yeah, so user-friendly !
I can also decompile and reprogram the game to my liking, why not ?
But if enough people agree with me that the default movement speed in TQ is a bit too slow, perhaps the devs who are listening the community would improve this tiny (but sometimes annoying) detail.
The debate is open.

As I said, it takes a whopping 30 seconds and half a brain to do this with the tools that come with the game.

No, I doubt that such a thing would be possible for you.

Perhaps the devs are more interested in the reasoning for the suggested change rather than masses of baseless opinions, so far the only reason I've seen here is "because I don't want to have to wait to get +movement speed items", which not only gives no good reason why it would make the game better, but can be used for every other thing in the game as well: "I don't want to wait to get more skill points, I don't want to wait to get more gold, blah blah blah...", if you don't want character developement, you're playing the wrong kind of game.

Movement speed seems like a pretty odd thing to focus on. I found the base movement speed in Titan Quest to be just fine. Not that it's something I've focused on, but I know it's something that never popped out as a huge problem for me. To be honest, I don't recall Diablo 2 really being much different. Well, unless I was playing a frenzy barb who was stacking up speed boosts.

In short, no, I had no problem with the way movement speed was presented in Titan Quest.

IIRC, players moved much faster in D2 than in TQ, although they did suffer from exhaustion after a while which was annoying.

I don't think that the movement speed is to blame for

in TQ. It's due to picking up all the loot. Performance peaks reducing FPS below 20 (due to poor hardware?) can also be blamed for. A poor build of course ... your first toon is weak by default. Playing through on normal for the first time is the highest (unmodded) difficulty. I would not like it, if my first toon ran too fast and pulled too many enemies all the times.
