I am running an AMD 7970m (my first ati since a Radeon 9600 god knows how long ago) and I have been playing Crysis. The card kicks ass, but I just now got to the aircraft carrier and the game CTDs every single time. I cannot advance to the next level. Google says to do -dx9 but that does not stop the crash. Sure it is not ATI's fault, Crysis apparently is totally bug ridden in the last level and nobody fixed it. But yes, going nvidia seems like a better way to finish crysis.

@keyrock thanks for that number decoder. I just went back to my shop's site as I thought I saw a 460 in the same price range. But it was a 640...They have a 470 on the site, but it is not available...

Thanks for the info guys!

Well, I will not close the thread, but the order has been placed. Thanks for all your help. I know it is not easy to admit to being an ATI guy (Asylum)

The winner: EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti

494 5-egg reviews, the price on amazon was only 121 and one of my kids had a gift certificate.

I never had any problems with this one ATI card (the first one I've had the pleasure to use), whereas I've had plenty with NVIDIA.

Agree with Asylum. I previously had a GTX 470,then a 570. The 470 was noisy and ran very hot, in the end it broke and was replaced by a 570 which also was noisy and ran very hot at about 90-95 deg under load. Both these cards were also pretty expensive.

I replaced the 570 with an Sapphire HD 7950 and cannot believe how much better it is. Under full load it runs at a max of 65deg in the same case with the same components. I have had no driver issues and it is very quiet.

The other big advantage is that it can run 3+ monitors from one card.

Having used Nvidia for years I can honestly say that I'm sticking with AMD from now on.
