I think we're going to have to get used to the big titles being online only and if we want our offline or lan we need to turn to indie developers. I think many of those growing up now with gaming it's natural that all games are online. My nephew doesn't really play games offline, he doesn't like single player. When he's not playing with me in Diablo 3 he jumps into public games to play with others. I wonder if there's such a thing as the MMO generation, or perhaps facebook has created a need to be connected at all times.

I don't like multiplayer with anyone I don't know, the risk of them being dicks and spoiling my fun is too high. Even my years of playing WOW was done as a single play game as much as that's possible. I think Diablo 3 is a great game, it's been quite a while since I've been this hooked on a game, but getting kicked from my single player experience because of server problems actually pulls that experience down a lot. Then there were the login problems at first, expected but still unacceptable for a game that's mostly single player for me. And the lag is annoying and too frequent.
Half of my deaths in the game have me wondering if it was my fault or server problems.

Yeah, lag is definitely an issue and it's a huge shame. It's not constant and it's not for longer periods, but it also shouldn't be there.
Yesterday I was getting spikes of 6500ms while I was playing hardcore. I could definitely see it getting me killed if I was in a tough fight.

Lag is indeed a hugh issue, my ping at one point last night got up to 3000. That didn't last long but it stayed on average in the 1500 mark until I had enough and stopped playing. Nmakes you wonder how WoW can run smoothly yet Diablo 3 can't.

My current one just started and isn't out of the beta area yet. My first (and highest so far, barb with a DH friend) died at the end of act2.

Dropped by my games shop while out shopping and just checked if they had a copy out of curiousity.
They didn't of course.
I was just about to leave when some woman came in to return a copy that her computer was too old to run, So I got that one at the 2nd hand discount price.

Now the server is off for maintenance, FUUUUUUUUU.. oh well, not like I'm short stuff to do.

How do you find Hardcore? I never played anything but regular in the past Diablo games. I just finished Act I with my "normal" witch hunter, and have rolled a new "hard core" witchhunter last night to run through Act I again.

Act 2 does seem to be the hardest of the 4, at least that's what I thought. Don't you get tired of starting over? I have to admit I don't have the patience to do hardcore, I'd go cry in the corner if I got a character really far just to have it die forever.

I find it's a good way to try the different classes, and it makes it more exciting to get further in the game. It's a bit like those oldskool platformers or shmups where you make it past a certain area by the skin of your teeth and get that sense of "oh man, I've never been this far before!"

I don't mind starting over as long as the core gameplay is still fun. Especially in D2 I had just as much fun at levels 1-10 as I did 60+. I must say D3 is a little different with how you have to grind through all the story stuff every time you start. What we've ended up doing is that one of us will play the intro solo and the rest will join when he's past the boring stuff.

One thing that's a little neat in D3 HC however is the shared stash and persistent crafters. When you die you still have quite a bit to show for if you stashed some rares for other classes and trained your crafters.
