First of all, this is about distribution, not publishing or financing. This is EA reaching out and offering to distribute games. This will benefit developers from more exposure and sales, EA by creating exposure and increasing the amount of people using Origin and their store, and finally (and most importantly in my eyes) gamers by providing competition to Steam.

Second, while people scream out against EA and how they're the disease of gaming, that they're evil etc, I'm left to wonder: How many of you have enjoyed games actually published/developed by EA recently, including the Fifa series, Madden, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Burnout, Dead Space, Sims? My gut feeling is telling me that everyone on this forum has bought and/or pirated one or more of these titles, thereby actively supporting EA by giving them money or exposure.

Furthermore, do you guys really want to see Grim Dawn sell less because Crate didn't pick up on EA's generous offer. Personally, if there are no strings attached to such a deal, I would happily support Crate if they accepted it. If Grim Dawn plays as good as it looks, I'd say they deserve all the exposure and sales they can get.

I really don't want to see this community start to fracture... I've seen enough of that on the Blizzard forums
Thanks for bringing up what is the actual bigger picture here.

I haven't bought me3 and will probably never play it. Didn't buy dragon age 2 either. Don't plan to buy or play any of the other games ea has to offer.

And do you really truly believe with the record ea has that they are doing this offer out of generosity? As I said earlier it has the feel of a bad infomercial that promises you half price for a year and flashes fine print saying that the half price will double or even triple after your year is up with you on a 2 year contract. There is just that feeling of something isn't quite right with it as it just seems to good to be true especially coming from ea.

And really do we want to get more players so badly we would have them work with ea? If the game is so amazing people will simply buy it straight from the devs.

This is almost inevitable, alas. The obvious downside of the large community. There will be trolls now, childish egoists and just stupid people who can't figure out particular things no matter how hard you are trying to explain. And no one can do anything about that. We will have to just live with it from now
After a better thought I can give one advise to all reasonable community members. Please just don't answer to ridiculous demands and complaints. Ignore those who repeat telling nonsense things. They will do it no matter what you do. Answering and arguing with them will only produce more crap threads on this forum and will lead us nowhere. I am sure Crate knows what to do and will do anything for overall benefit. They don't really need advocates on the forum After all, if they really need our oppinion or approval for something they will ask us explicitly.
So I beg you to stop feeding trolls. We've already given them enough food

This thread is done, it's just becoming a flamewar at this point. As always, Grim Dawn remains DRM free.

If people want's to buy GD on kickstarter, Stean, EA origin, or on other "distributor" that take a share, that's fine. Yes Crate get 10 to 15% less $ on each sales, but it gives people CHOICE to buy how they wants.
Actually, it's quite a bit more than that. Take the high end and double it and that's what pretty much all sites charge.
