I just finished the game last night...absolutely loved every minute. According to steam it took me around 16 hours to complete, and I came nowhere close to finding all the secrets. In fact, I'm actually a little disappointed with my performance as I really thought I took my time and did pretty well discovering and exploring the dungeon lol.
With that said, it's probably a good thing because now I have a reason to go back into Grimrock and play some more ![]() Anyways my first party consisted of a Minotaur warrior (maces), a human warrior (sword), a lizard man rogue (bows), and an insect wizard (fire). Think it was a pretty strong and well balanced group and didn't have that much trouble killing things, although like mentioned above you have to take your time and fight smartly.

Damn 16h? Haha i guess if i did rush it a bit i would habe done so as eell, im on my 10th hour and going on floor 6th now, i am watching every bricks of every wall... Esp now, they placed some new loose rocks that look like runes that are very hard to spot... Like for the orb on lvl 6
Im thinking that at this rate 25-30h will be my runtime

You are probably right...a lot of folks on the forums are reporting 20-25hr long play-throughs.

Yeah, i mean, might take me more, i'm a completionist.. depending on the game and i think i'll pretty much have all of nearly all the acheivements once i get through.
But i'm also not the kind to chase for acheivements either

Haha.. i didnt even know there was a character limit! 15 000 characters !
Anyway here is the next part! Level 7 - 9 secrets Secret 1 - Ahhh thorum so helpful, read the note as you first enter the level, he gives you a hint on the first secret.. open all iron doors but the one next to the stairs! Secret 2 - Maze of shadows - How to easily explain it.. there is kind of two sections, a big square and a rectangle on top of it.. once you reach the ''2nd'' part, make a left for a crate... when you get that crate look for a loose rock in this general viscinity and you,ll open up a way to the portal Secret 3 - Maze of shadows - AH! in the room you were teleported in, there is a loose rock leading to the next secret Secret 4 - Just after the maze of shadows, there are a bunch of pits, if i remember properly its the furthest one, fall down in that pit and you'll have yet another secret Secret 5 - Not too far from a previous secret there are demon statues and receptacle for the spirit bolts. Lead the bolts in their respective targets through a small switch puzzle and you'll be rewarded with a shaman Staff! Secret 6 - Now bear with me here haha i dont remember WHICH pitfall it is.. but its after the secret mentionned above (im writing all secrets down and posting em once i'm done with a floor haha.. and di not specify which pit). once you get to that pit, there is a bunch of long hallways with floor switches that shoot poison bolts.. make your way to the end to get boots of valor ! (your 1st peice of vvalor.. unless you were powerful enough to tackle with the fighter's challenge) Secret 7 - You'll eventually reach a roundabout hallways, with a frail in the middle, look for a loose rock near that frail, i think its in front of it past the pillar, click it and make a run around the roundabout to reach a room full of statues... revealing the stairs leading down to the floor 8, the vault of the dismantler.. the optional dungeon.. well entire floor haha Secret 8 - Real close to the roundabout, there is a series of 5 switches.. flip em so they make a click sound and you,ll be rewarded with an assassin's dagger.. its bloody good! Secret 9 - The Iron Door - Now... i dont think i ought to tell you how to do this one.. its bloody easy.. do not let the orbs touch their targets.. takes about 30 sec.. and it'll open up a few seconds after the bolts stop! Level 8 - 6 secrets Secret 1 - Through the normal steps down to level 8! look for a loose rock in this area, you'll get your first secret Secret 2 - Alright through the lightning corridor, in the room where you meet spiders and uggarians, there are three switches on the walls, each of which open up a path to floor switches, hold all of em down for your next secret Secret 3 - a on the other side from secret 2, look for a loose rock.. but be careful that door hides ogre secrets! Secret 4 - The Iron Door - well if you've gotten the lightning rod by killing that ogre, you've also gotten the gear key (secret 3), and guess what use it to open the iron door! Secret 5 - in the room with swarms of uggarians (fire dudes) there is a switch on one of the colums, press it for your next reward Secret 6 - Well you've gotten this far.. open the door to the dismantler.. yeah really thats a secret.. place an item on the altar (pressure sensitive) and claim your prize! Level 9 - 4 secrets Secret 1 - The Armoury - look for a loose rock inside, and be rewarded with the game's strongest axe Secret 2 - Temple grounds - yep enjoy those ice drakes, anyway, from the entreance, make a left (the secret will be in the corridor in front) make a right afterwards, straight, and then there will be an alcove with a hidden switch, press it and run back to the entreance a wall opened in the previously mentionned corridor, revealing the game's (as far as i know) only item that rewards the allmighty unarmed! Secret 3 - Once youve gotten through the sanctum where you fought 3 uggarians as well as solved this room's puzzle, fall down the pit, put torches on each scone, stand on the tile where the torches's shadows converge and throw a rock north and east (can be throwing knives and ninja stars too) (basically follow the instructions given by the scroll) and claim your prize Secret 4 - The iron Door - i hope for you you've gotten the bone necklace! Level 10 - 6 secrets Secret 1 - The Iron Door - remove the rugs from the walls and place the red gem onto the altar Secret 2 - just about behind the crystal in the following tunnels, there is a loose rock leading to the next secret Secret 3 - There will be a pit near a locked door, fall down the pit, fight the crabs, and claim your prize! Secret 4 - In the caverns, on one of the pillars near the entreance, there will be a loose rock, press it to reveal thorum's resting place (use his bones on a crystal to unlock the acheivement) Secret 5 - In the room with the portal leading to the prison room, there will be a loose rock which disables the portal and opens a pit.. there is a small trap if you're too quick.. but there is your next secret. Secret 6 - when you enter the cave, fall down the 2nd pit in front of you and then go claim the strongest hammer in the game! oh and fight the hordes off! Level 11 - None Level 12 - None Level 13 - 2 secrets Secret 1 - at the south east corner, loock for a hidden switch inside an alcove! Secret #70 Secret 2 - not too far from the previous secret, there will be another alcove or so to say a dead end, press the switch to reveal, tun tun tun, the very last secret! Congratulation you found all the secrets

hahahaha damn i'm dumb..
for a few levels now i had been carrying a gear key, wondering where it was meant to go.. and i just figured that it was a bug... guess what, it was not! I had forgot to open the iron door on level 4... my 57th secret!.. now back down to level 8 :P oh btw if you're wondering how to go back up from level 6.. reach level 7 properly (falling down a pit does not count) and come back!

So i just got done with the game
On hard mode, with old school enabled and without writing down any sort of map whatsoever. Also by inspecting every wall and trying every bloody combination, including backtracking to find which secret i had missed. Steam says i have spent 30h in this game, which seems accurate I took my time, had to be careful against my enemies, since some could one shot me. Overall i loved the game.. finding puzzles and hidden stuff is truely amazing.. and if you can do so without my listing, its even more fun! And even though there are only 10-15 units in the game, it is not too repetitive, at least it did not feel as such to me! Edit : Oh also i checked on a website.. see if there was anything more to the game and... here it is! Toorum Mode Req : Have buddies with toorum Acheivement Start a new game with 1 human character named Toorum and press enter, then start the game and you will play as Toorum! Credit to Gamebanshee on this one!
