Default Excellent characters in video games

What do you guys think are the best voiced/acted/personality/ect in video games? I am not big on dialog or story and generally think characters in games are pretty dull, but occasionally I see something very interesting and well done.

I just saw the trailer for Far Cry 3, and while I really don't care much about the series anymore, at around 1:00 in the video the introduce a Character named Voss...and whoa! I think (at least this brief segment) is some REALLY well done characterization in a video game.

The dialog, mannerisms, and attitude (ie insanity) of this character is very well done and actually strikes a chord with me...that would be a very scary situation to be in

For a display of excellent characterization in a video game, please see Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Atlas from Bioshock. I think the Irish accent really made it for that character, couldn't imagine him having any other background... In fact, I quite liked all of the characters in Bioshock.

I did love Deathspank, his over the top misplaced heroism and overall stupidity reminded me of the Tick. Though I've quite had my fill of him after playing through 1,5 of his games.

Max Payne was a pretty good character (heard the movies killed that aspect).

Raz from Psychonauts was well done too. A bit too mature for a child, but a very well rounded character, no flatness.

Dawn of War 2 - I have to admit that I'm very unfamiliar with the whole WH40K universe so excuse my misinterpetations, but the space marine characters in that game are very badass - and more importantly, in a serious way. Through their actions they're much more terrifying than the Tyrannids. Tyrannids just kill everything. If the Spacemarines loose comrades in battle, they'd rather "honour" them by putting their dead friends in a soulless, hollow shell, destroying their personality and trapping their soul (which is what I feel is described exactly in One), than finally giving them the rest they deserved for dedicating their lives in service of their Emperor. And that's what they do to the people they like

Furthermore, I liked the guy/girl/tranvestite/whatever you choose from Saints Row 2. Just plain badass, over the top, yet not so flat you'd compare him/her/it with Duke Nukem/Serious Sam.

Well, that's it for interesting characters in my collection of Steamgames. A special mention for TF2, who have surprsingly well developed personalities for a team-based FPS. And the turd of the week award goes to Gordon Freeman, who has given the phrase "flat character" a new meaning.

How could I forget Max Payne? You are right, the movie did him no justice. At no point in the movie was Max talking in metaphor. While the setting in the movie was somewhat dark and gritty, the Max character in the movie struck me as an action hero and not of someone fighting the demons that haunt him.

As for Deathspank, I sort of agree, but at the same time I thought too much of the humour in DeathSpank fell a bit flat for me.
