Default [B23] {Battlemage} The Gatling Gun

So what happens when you combine Cadence with 138% Attack Speed on Dual Wield Guns?

Something beautiful.

Post-optimization post:

New skillbuild: http://grimcalc.com/g?mastery=Battle...0-0-0-0-0&B=22

New skillbuild w/ Gear Bonuses: http://grimcalc.com/g?mastery=Battle...0-0-0-0-0&B=22

Changelog:
Stat Changes:
  • Gained ~130hp due to attribute distribution (would have lost ~220 had I not invested into Physique). Edit: Technically, if you look at the previous posted build, I lost 1hp, but I'd been running around at 5,178hp for a while without updating this post.
  • Gained 5% lifesteal.
  • Gained 7% attack speed.
  • Gained 400 Offensive Ability.
  • Gained 500 paper dps. Actually gained WAY more than this when you factor Cadence/OA into the mix. Edit: Extensive testing (57 trials) is pointing at something around 19-22k dps with OR active.
  • Gutworm is now falling in under one second when Oleron's Rage is popped.

Here's the new character sheet. Stats are with Field Command/Squad Tactics and Counter Strike active.

Where do I want to take it beyond here? If I can get a Crushing -of the Dranghoul ring, I'll swap it for my Crushing Sapphire Ring of the Wild. I also still want better feet. If I could get Officer's -of Fury pistols, I'd want those as well.

Edit: ^This is not a spoiler. It's an image of a line I made to separate the two versions of this post.

Pre-optimization post:
The build in action within SoT, as per request of a few fellow forumers; I cleared only that which stood between me and Alkamos (and Ilgor).

Some of you may recall that I was earlier theorycrafting an Oathbreaker setup utilizing both the Oathbreaker Pistol and the Oathbreaker Shield. I employed the suggestions from the earlier thread into the build itself (many thanks to Shuranosuke for convincing me not to use IEE and Discord!), and while the build kicked some serious ass, it lacked a certain...flair. Being tanky as balls was all well and good (level 40 enemies were hitting me and doing a solid 0 damage), but it took a little long to kill things respectably. Then a brilliant idea popped into my head: since the Oathbreaker pistol has +15% attackspeed (average) on it, why not use two of them?

And so I did, and there have never been so many Cadence procs.

Here's the skillbuild without gear bonuses:
http://grimcalc.com/g?mastery=Battle...0-0-0-0-0&B=22

Here's the skillbuild with gear bonuses:
http://grimcalc.com/g?mastery=Battle...0-0-0-0-0&B=22

Character sheet reports about 850dps, 1100dps with Oleron's Rage active. That's not very realistic; if the Gutworm video is any indication, the ability to kill Gutworm in 3.12 seconds indicates around 8,053 dps with Oleron's Rage active. Probably around half-to-two thirds of that with O.R. inactive. Let that sink in a little bit...

Char sheet page one; a keen observer might notice that I still have 20 unspent attribute points that I have no idea what to do with; stats are with Counter Strike and Field Command active:

Char sheet page two; stats are with Counter Strike and Field Command active. Activating Oleron's Rage makes the attackspeed jump over 150%:

Places to improve:
  • Leggings could be upped to rare/rare, although I've finally found a good use for Templar's Legguards. Would swap accordingly.
  • Medal, Boots, and Shoulderguards could use improvement here and there, Shoulderguards less so (believe they're Negating/of Oleron's Wrath; good resists, good damage).
  • If I were to swap leggings, I'd want a Hallowed Ground w/ +1 to Soldier to compensate for the defenses, whereas right now I'm using Chains of Oleron.

Edit: One of the major concerns from the theorycrafting thread was the fact that this build would have virtually no AoE capabilities. This remains the case now, except its not really a concern because the build mows down groups of enemies faster than Kripparian's blademaster build ever could.

Following extensive testing against Gutworm, I've determine the following statistics about the build while using Oleron's Rage:

Code:
Average time to kill Gutworm: 3.268 seconds
Average dps: 7,824.487
Average crits to kill Gutworm: 6.8
Average crits/second: 2.128

that's pretty interesting, but i'm still wary of builds without at least a little AoE. what does normal gameplay (read: not gutworm) look like? SoT runs take a bit of time to set up, so how about the homestead -> herald of flame run?

The build chews up lighter opponents really, really well, and that's not just an advertisement. Withering Fields gets absolutely crushed, as does the majority of Pine Barrens/Tyrants Hold. Larger enemies take a bit of kiting, though one can pop Mirror of Ereoctes and hold their ground for a time if need be.

Act 2 was a little bit difficult, but Acts 1 and 3 are cleaned up unimaginably fast. SoT Revenants are a bit of an issue, but they're slow enough so as not to pose a serious threat; they're just a damage sponge. Ghosts/skeletons fall like cordwood.

At its heart, this build is a trash/boss killer, that gets bogged down but not defeated by heavier enemies.

Edit: And I only posted Gutworm statistics because its easily repeatable/quickly available to everyone for comparative purposes.

Hello,

I'm a noob (less than 40 hours of playtime) but still i enjoy the game quite a lot. I'm interested in Pistol builds, and this one seems nice. I was looking for a none-Demolitionist build, as i don't like fire so much.

I didn't know Cadence and other skills could work with pistols, i thought it was melee only. It's good to know. Is it like this for all skills ?

Also, how to you start this toon as a noob ? I suppose go to Soldier, but then ? What to raise at first ?

Thank you

Nice build !

I see you've swapped the shield for another gun, that makes sense for all the extra Cadence charges you get from dual-wielding.

Also, RIP in pepperonis Gutworm >.>

-gunslinger's jacket
-Marauder's ammo belt

interesting build I must say

I also have a build that uses cadence, but instead of going for the Arcanist class, I went for the Occultist class for the Curse of frailty skill to lower enemies physical resistance

Pic's:

Build

build + to skills

highest crit: 24103

definitely going to try out your build!
