Cool A Titan Quest fans diary of ideas for Grim Dawn :)

I was, and still am a big Titan Quest fan. I still play it alot, but sadly I've lost my keys so I can't play online. As I play I discover things I miss in TQ and therefore I will post them here

I#1:
I'd Love unlockable classes! One unlockable for every difficulty you clear would be nice. I don't think they should be better than the other classes or anything, but they should be different (not only with different spells, but different in other ways).

I#2:
In-game forums! I love the thought of being able to press a button (like § or something), bringing up forums where you can check things about the games, like "what drops that", and "where should I farm those". Not an internet browser though.

I#3:
Special classes. In TQ, I think that the classes are very different, and that's good, but there's also another kind of different I'm looking for. Perhaps a class that focuses on character powerups (like speed, attack speed, and such) and another one which is completely different.

I#4:
I mostly use macs, but I do have an old windows computer lying around too. I'd like the game to be available on mac computers, that'd be awesome. I don't care if it works bad or is laggy, I'd love to run it on my macbook! Please port it to mac :P. BTW: I don't know much about porting, but a quick way could be using cider... I've seen alot of games ported with cider (like GTA San Andreas), but I don't know how that works...

Thats all for now. Thanks!

Important note: I am not a pro at TQ. I am actually pretty bad at it, so it's not surprising if I say something that is wrong. If I say something stupid/wrong, please correct me, but I'd like it if you didn't flame me :P

I#5:
Maybe there should be a defend button? I'm not sure how that'd work, but I think It'd be cool if I could defend myself, lowering damage, with perhaps the right mouse button. Maybe this could be the skill of the new defense class (if one will be present), and drain mana when used?

I#6:
There's some animations that are missing (IMO), especially when you switch weapon (I think you should wear the weapon you're not using on your back/waist and pick it up when you change weapon).

Hello ogge, we like our nice forum and don't start flame wars. The worst you need to be prepared for is opposition or that your suggestions are declined.

#1 GD is no beat'em up, which allows you to unlock bonus characters quickly. Many people will play it only once. If they cannot select their favorite mastery, then they will be disappointed. It's also not worth to create a mastery, if it is only for those few gamers, who will replay GD. GD will start with 5 masteries on release - less will be too little.
#2 Do you want a forum like this, or a reference work?
#3 Do you think, that the TQ masteries are not unique enough? Are they too similar?
#4 See Linux client ? and Obligatory Mac release thread
#5 Has a defend button any purpose? You might be able to defend against a mighty strike from a boss. But I don't see any need in normal gameplay. Step aside, if you see it coming. Skills and equipment will be your shield.
#6 That sounds cool ... not sure, if this hasn't been discussed yet.

Hello eisprinzessin! I'm glad to hear that first part and I actually like opposition aswell as agreement (stuff usually turns out better if it is reviewed from different perspectives first). I'd like to response to your responses

#1 Do you mean it's not like titan quest? Sorry but I don't really get it :/
#2 I was thinking of a forum like this, but with skins, and no address bar and browser features. This way people can share knowledge in a fun way
#3 Oh, yes I really thought they were unique enough. More than enough. But I expect this game to be alot better than more than enough (because it is from the same developers as TQ). Therefore I was thinking of something really unique. Like instead of only Tank, Damage, Healer and Caster classes, I'd like something more uncommon.
#4 Interesting... I am considering whether to pre-order (epic edition), but I wasn't sure, because of me using almost all macs. I take it that the game will be released for windows later ported to mac and/or linux? I didn't have much time to read it through...
#5 I was thinking more like being defense/rogue and throwing a mighty curse spell, than stand and defend to reduce damage while watching your enemies slowly crumble away... epic :3
#6 Thanks!

I will really follow up on Grim Dawn, and I hope to be one of it's first players!

I#7 Poisons and bleeding skills and those things seems to become useless end-game. I was thinking that x DMG/sec and +x DMG should be adjusted to the health of the most common/standard mob of your level. Of course you're supposed to level you're skills up as you level, so I'd like a balance between this and the above.

Note1: I just wanted to tell everyone that I am not really confident that my own ideas will work, thus I can take... opposition. My vocabulary isn't very good right now, sorry... (I live in Sweden)

Note2: I'm have almost decided to pre-order the game whether it will be mac-compatible from beginning or not. I hope that there will be some really low graphics options so that I can run it on my laptop though...

#1 I understood by One unlockable for every difficulty you clear would be nice. that you want some base masteries to be available on epic/legendary only.

In GD you will still be able to select your dual-class by joining 2 masteries ... or you can just play with one mastery only. Access to the second is most probably available in normal mode, too. Actually it will be quite similar to TQ in this aspect, except for that it will start with 5 but not 8 masteries. But multiple expansions will add more masteries.

#3 There will be significant changes for Melee Magic Class. Also read:

First there will GD for Windows ... I can't tell, if there is any software, which will let you run GD on Mac/Linux smoothly, or if Crate will port it soon after release on Windows. Also consider the circumstances.

#7 That's known and will certainly not be repeated in GD ...

We were allowed barely any time in post production for testing and balancing, so some things slipped through the cracks.

#1 I meant that once you had completed normal you'd be able to create new characters using the X class and so on. Masteries only available in epic would be annoying, cause you'd have to wait to choose your 2nd (or even first) class. But I see good points in this response and so, hereby I'm upgrading idea one:
I#1:
Perhaps 1 unlockable class when completing legendary for hardcore players, which would be released in an expansion(?). However the upgrade comes now: Unlockable beginner skins, colors, maybe "titles" and cool stuff like that, which is only for looks, and doesn't give any bonuses. These would be unlocked through quests (self-explanatory), achievements (example: kill 100 enemies in under 10 seconds) and, of course, progress on the main quest. This would add alot to the game for me! I love working towards unlocking something cool B>

#4 There is always Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop and Crossover, however those three won't be able to run most current games without tons of lag. On my iMac I can run cod4 for mac very good, but when running cod4 in bootcamp I have to turn down the graphics and resolution. EDIT:
I came across a thread about system requirements:

As I understand it, TQ was rather resource-hungry and they've fixed a lot of those issues in GD
I can barely run titan quest (it lags painfully much), and not really enjoy playing it. I hope this'll be different though...

#7 Awesome

If you like achievements ...

Many things were discussed and commented by medierra and the other people at Crate in the first few weeks. For a good overview of older threads (until end of March) see Ideas and Feedback so far part #1 and part #2

For other interesting newer topics it's best to use the search or browse the Grim Dawn Community Section
