I've just always had this idea of a bad ass Priest really taking control of the game- by helping allies, dealing damage, and mitigating for the team--Guild Wars had it almost right with the Monk Class... but with GW2 they got rid of the monk(WTF?) Hope you like my idea!
Skill Tier Tree Smite- damage is attributed to either Holy or Fire dmg Exorcism - debuff monsters and crowd control/mitigation Prayer - Heal and Protection skills SpiritsThe Class Primary Attribute- the spirits created are more like companions but with distinct functions within the tiers, like for Prayers you may cast a spirit that is unique in appearance(OBV) for maybe doing some small % healing or protection; as a Exorcism spirit it latches on from one enemy to the next inflicting different statuses-Confuse,Convicted(stun),Lament(target loses str-or-hp/sec) Smite Spirit- sort of trap oriented, location or self/ally dependent -- cast a smite spirit on an ally that has a group of monsters around him for xxdmg/sec- or Retribution Smite Spirit any time spirit is active attackers get %dmg done back. Equipment Robes/Cloaks/Hoods Weapons Staff(1h)/Spear(2H) Offhand Wine Glass/Urn of Ashes |

As a matter of interest, what would the mastery itself be called? (IMO priest mastery doesn't sound quite right
) I do like the idea however, I reckon it would be the opposite of the Occult mastery, though they would fight with whatever they could (staffs or spears won't be in GD iirc) and a priest with a savage two hand sword or dual wielding pistols would be far more epic than a priest with a staff

Or a priest with two butchers knives on his wrists. Soul Eater anyone?

Exorcism was suggested before. Just for the record - masteries won't limit you to specific item classes.

Well, as someone that already suggested a "Divine" Mastery and absolutely love the priestly/paladinic/inquisitorial side of things, I naturally approve.
However, I am not entirely sure if you are familiar with how TQ/IT organized skills and how it will (as far as I know) be organized in GD. There's no skill tabs and you seem to have that sort of D2-mindset with "Smite"/"Exorcism"/"Prayer". If I'm misunderstanding, some better formatting and so on might help your suggestion. Some more skills would also be helpful in getting your points across and fleshing out the Mastery. Quote:

I would prefer something along the lines of a doctor/physician mastery class. I think it would be fitting to the genre more, and would warrant some interesting skills and equipment.

the ideas are great, it would not be much of an issue to find a suitable name...
