And understanding it. I re-open the subject of net-neutrality for debate.

If you have PMed me something you want to say and it has nothing to do with politics and it is on topic and abides by the above rules, then please continue the conversation. I feel it is a very important one.

Specifically, I fear google/etc/al saw a financial advantage in the repeal of NN. They have been way too silent and they were are best hope for defeating this. If they were not there before, where is the money going to come from to fight this. How long will the ISPs even wait before starting some horrendous pricing scheme that partitions the internet into packages.

Please stay on topic and no politics or what-about-ism. I will just delete entire posts that cross the line.

Fine. Then I'll note it was Google/Youtube that deleted Ajit Pai's cringeworthy dad-humor for several hours, not Comcast or Verizon. And he's been attacked subsequently in ways no one should support, no matter what your feelings on the FCC decision.

Not taking seriously any complaints about possible future censorship by ISPs if current censorship by Google/Youtube, Twitter, and Facebook is fine by you because the aggrieved party agrees with your corporate politics.

I was not saying anything pro-Google nor pro-Comcast.

When I earlier shared the rates for an ISP in France, that was to say that Comcast is the rapist. But, my concern comes not from surprise that Comcast is being Comcastic, but more that Google did not put up more of a fight, because iirc they did protest in the very beginning of this debate, a long time ago. But if a packaged internet is seen as viable by the Googles, due to a proposed lack of visibility of competition, then the internet is very much doomed. Comcast cannot fuck with me here. But if this stuff gets the support of the content gardens, then my ISPs will start to be Comcastic in their own way.

And I'm not pro-Comcast or pro-Verizon. I hate big government AND big corporations. Technological advancement has offered both unprecedented power over human minds and they're both in collusion to effect that for the foreseeable future. Don't let partisan blinders inure you to the dangers on either side. Read Caitlin.

Fully agree with this, even though I think the threat is not evenly spread amongst both sides (and if you look at which side the overwhelming majority of the big money donations is going to, big money agrees with me on that...)

Not to rehash what has been said before, I think that Google is for NN, have certainly seen some articles mention it. I assume they are not as vocal about it as they will be less affected by it / can afford to stay quiet. They will be providing some of the services that every ISP will need to provide and cannot afford to mess with - not that this is a good reason to not be outspoken.

So, everybody saw the price increases?
They literally have no shame, I fear you have to take up the French tactics now, which shamefully seem to have no effect here anymore.

Every ISP company building needs to be blocked 24/7 by an angry mob of protesters.

Better still, open a wifi public access point at these locations and cancel your contracts and camp there. If every building has 100 people out front sharing free internet and not paying at home, they might use up that tax break quick.

I was shocked to hear of this. Shocked I tell you

On a more serious note, this is just the beginning. I would not want to be a tech startup in the US now, the chance that the ISP cartel will kill your business has risen considerably, simply because you can't afford to pay their new "pay us or you get the slow lane" tax and the established players can.

Then we have Elon who will ‘democratize’ the Internet with his shinny satellites.

Jokes aside, this is horrible, I don’t want to pay google’s rates to play Hearthstone...(lol)

In the US, sure. The FCC is a joke, you might get something done with democrats in power but I wouldn't hold my breath, both parties are beholden to the telecom lobby.

In my country neutrality is the law, so I just chuckle (in a sad way) whenever I read stuff about how it is in across the ocean.
