Currently enduring a bloody annoying cold snap that has produced several blizzards, massive public service interruption and my plumber can't come out. I could do with some of that global warming about now as I'm sat here wearing two pairs of trousers, a jacket and a coat and a hat&scarf. Stupid cold is stupid!

Thankfully, it's looking like the worst of winter is past us where I live. Of course, as soon as I go and say that there will be a surprise March blizzard or some shit.

Yeah, about that cold snap ... isn't that just the displaced cold air from Greenland where it was above freezing a few days ago (in an arctic winter no less, permanent darkness to the end of this month)?

Enjoy thinking about that for a while

Yeap, the polar jet stream that usually contains that cold air is currently pretty weak due to warmer arctic waters. Which as well as allowing super cold air to escape southwards, has also allowed warm air to reach the north pole. Which is current disturbingly warm.

Also, usually the Gulf Stream helps keep coastal Europe warmer than this, but that's also weakened, as it's flow depends on temperature differences between the Gulf of Mexico and the Arctic Ocean. That and fresh water flowing off Greenland's melting ice sheet isn't helping either.
