Default Weapon/Item Histories and Lore

Since this is a new game and a new universe (IP)
one of the things i so enjoyed in all the Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale games
were the item histories and Lore.

This gives the writers a way to give a history to the world, hint at areas not yet made in the game and provide a detailed back ground of this gaming universe.

I'm not talking about a stupid 8 word sentence like Legendary items do in D3.

I'm talking long and detailed weapon, Armor histories. The names places and battle the weapons were lost in. The people who wielded them and the great battles they fought in. The tragic end the item if cursed did to them , of the simple gift of a friend. Here is an example on what im talking about taken from Icewind Dale about a really cool mace.

"Three White Doves*
An extremely unusual mace, Three White Doves was created by an Ilmaterian priest named Alledec in 850 DR. Alledec had been a fighting priest for the order for twenty years, and he decided it was time to leave a legacy for the church to use after he had passed away. This ivory-headed mace was the result. The shaft of the weapon is made from black-enameled steel, with the handle being crafted of carved ivory. Gold bands lock the head and the handle into place. The head itself is the most unusual part of the mace. It is carved from pure ivory and it resembles three white doves facing the center of the weapon. The flared wings of the doves form the flanges.

Alledec died in his sleep three years after completing the mace. It was given to a traveling fighter in service of the church of Ilmater. The fighter later passed the weapon on to a priest of Ilmater named Recken the Bold. Recken lost the weapon when he was fighting a powerful vampire near Trollbark Forest. Recken was eventually victorious over the vampire, but he never recovered the mace."

That's the kind of in depth history that make using items so fun!

I agree it offers much needed depth to uniques, but perhaps many things are in line before it.

Something like this was suggested before, except they had an idea that could work: During the alpha or beta, fans that get lucky and get a unique or legendary drop could write a backstory for it if they wanted. This potentially allows for a great diversity of item backstories thought up by our community!

Also, in one of the screenshot threads, specifically this one referring to this screenshot, medierra mentions that the "big blocky sword" the char is holding is an early unqiue made out of a signpost pointing to the magistrate's building, which is why it looks home-made and on the red strak you can see the word "magistrate", so maybe they are doing something similar to backstories in GD.
