Default Ultimate difficulty too easy in SC using easily manageable gear

Here's my character....
https://www.grimtools.com/calc/JVlleYpV

Grim Tool seems to be off slightly with the stats that it shows compared to how the ingame shows them. As you can see I'm not running any fancy gear that doesn't drop quite frequently since alot of what I've gotten has been dropped multiple times

Anyway...

I love this game alot and have invested over 600 hours. My only complaint is that it seems I've reached a dead point in the game apart from playing in HC since that's not really an option given my frequent online disconnects that could perm kill my character. So staying within the realm of softcore I've noticed that even without uber gear, I can manage to solo ultimate and all its bosses with relative ease. So what I'm getting at is that the game is simply not hard enough in softcore using the simple gear that I'm using. Even if I were to get better gear that was way more themed than my current gear then all I would be doing is making the game easier because that's essentially what you're doing when you get better gear which even reflects in other ActionRPG's. However (using D3 as my reference) what maintained my interest was the addition of adding the paragon leveling system and torment difficulty levels. This meant that you had a much much longer time to achieve your characters max growth point apart from obtaining better gear all the while perusing extra playthroughs at higher difficulty levels beyond the normal to hard to expert to master to torment etc etc etc.

In GD it seems that there just isn't anything more to achieve except to get better gear at lvl100 so that you can beat the same bosses 'faster'..... ehhhh

I am hoping that Forgotten Gods adds a higher difficulty level beyond Ultimate or even multiple higher difficulties like the 13 added Torment difficulties in D3.

Time will tell I guess

So you have over 600 hours in the game, guess what, getting to know the game this well and it will seem easy in places, Rest assured that if you want challenging then the Shattered Realm will give you more than you can handle

Edit....less than 10% of all players even reach Ultimate, let alone beat it

Well, you can play offline you know. GD isn't an always online game.

As for more difficulties, sorry, but not happening. People are constanly complaining that the game has too many with just the current 3 and devs have stated several times that they want players to have completed characters, not ones that go on endless via paragons or other levelling options.

If you want to test your builds to the limit then the new Shattered Realm game mode should do the trick - an endless dungeon.

Plus mutators are being added to other areas of the game too to make them more interesting.

Just because it is easy for you does not mean it is easy for everyone. I would be surprised if you did NOT think it was easy with 600 hours xD

Now there are more things to GD than just killing Master of Flesh on Ultimate. You have the nemeses, the rouge-like dungeons/areas, and the "big three" (Avatar of Modgrogen, Ravager and Lokarr).

I had the same thoughts about you, that there is no other char progression besides getting better items. People tried to convince me that GD is more about build diversity and creativity - you are supposed to make many many builds. Put that into contrast with the Diablo games, where only a handful of builds are "viable". What actually killed my interest in D3 was actually the paragon grind. (and speaking of easy, I beated D3 RoS first time I played it, did not die once...)

So what I enjoy to do now (750h game time) is to put restrictions on myself and my chars to make it "harder".

BTW: Grim Tools shows stats with average rolls on the items. It loads the items from its database and do not read off the actual stats on your items.

I did not understand this "playing in HC since that's not really an option given my frequent online disconnects that could perm kill my character"
1) Grim Dawn is not an online game?
2) Stop using Steam cloud save if you do.
3) You can still backup char save files and thus resurrect dead HC chars (like if you died from frame rate loss or whatever you think was "unfair")

Well, you weren't kidding about manageable gear.

For me the main idea is to build a character which plays the way I've designed and can take out the content at a reasonable rate. Then move on to the next character. Not grind the same character repeatedly until I'm a toothless old fart.

The reality of the situation is using the same character repeatedly gets boring really fast. It's good to swap characters every now and then and then go back to old one's. Sometimes whilst your levelling a new character you get ideas about another path you could have taken on an old build and try to freshen them up etc.

I play SC because I don't have to go full tank. I love ignoring certain amounts of defense to give my characters huge offense because I love seeing the crits fly. You, on the other hand for some unknown reason went the complete opposite way, your build would struggle to crit anything on Ultimate and most areas would be a chore to get through.

Here's my Elementalist with few defensive options but with +101% crit damage bonus and still managed to kill Alexander in a bastard of an area. (I hate fighting him around Crown Hill. He makes himself hard to target due to the terrain and occasionally blocks your exits, then there's the late spawns which add to the drama). Still I wouldn't mind more defensive options for Stormcaller's Pact but whatevs.

Have you actually fought Nemeses, any the rogue dungeon bosses and any of the secret bosses? With that build, you would have a rather difficult time killing most of them.

Not to mention you made a defensive, shield build (you went Obelisk of Menhrir) and you are complaining that the game is easy. The main game, that means just the story progression, is made to be beat with average gear or else it would be impossible for new player to beat it if it was any harder.

And please name your death count because i can say something is easy but then have a load of deaths.

I agree completely. As for story boss when the OP’s shield doesn’t block hefty damage is a possibility.
So it’s not like the build can simply facetank everything the whole time; there will be a fair amount of danger for the character. Moreso since damage is low and it’ll be subject to debuffs, all the moves of a boss and low health rage etc.

I'm honestly having an hard time believing that the OP fought any of the endgame bosses because that low of an OA would make them extremely difficult. Just between the missing constantly because 2,1k OA is way too low for them, meaning you don't leech, making survivability much more difficult. Not to mention what it looks like to be really low damage because the amount of flat damage in Fire Strike is low even for Grimtools standards (Grimtools always has less damage compared to the actual ingame damage).

I also wouldn't call what he has average gear between the two mageslayer parts, the amulet, the pants, the shield and the decent boots.

SC player saying the game is too easy, but using a nonsensical excuse to not play HC. This never gets old.
