Well, my opinion is backed by my experience in Grim Dawn. And I've made quite a few top-tier builds - it's something that requires some understanding of how skills work and a lot of testing.

So I am not just talking to contradict you or anyone else. When it comes to Savagery - I have tested a lot of builds based on it and tested it versus toughest challenge that is available to us right now - Crucible Gladiator 150-170.

I have listed Savagery builds that are absolutely oupie. If you want 1h ones: DW-Bleed Trickster is godlike, DW-cold Trickster is godlike. DW-ranged elemental Vindicator gets the job done. DW-ranged lightning vindicator is almost godlike.

It's not matter of opinion but of test data.
To counter mad_lee's savagery vindicators there must be way more data and actual builds.
Savagery is generally better in dw melee and 2h variants, and they are both weak in 1h.
There is no evidence of Fire Strike being better than Savagery except dw ranged.

1hd + shield savagery should be ok with the new mastery once the expansion comes out.

I have always felt "meh" about going Sword & Board without using the Soldier as 2nd mastery.

So I think the issue of one-handed melee savagery is, at least somewhat, tied to the limited (?) options/benefits of using a shield at all in the first place. Why should I gimp my dmg output and not gaining some defensive measures? The only reason for me to use a shield in the first place is Overguard (and Blitz...)

If you look at it in terms of being a points pig, then FS wins hands down

For 1H:

FS requires a full 50 levels for the line and can have 91 points for full overcap (51 softcap)

Savagery requires 32 levels for the line and can have 70 points for the full overcap. (40 softcap)

~1.5x

I think everyone will be using the Oathkeeper's auto-attack instead.

What does that have to do with what I said?

You said that 1h Savagery + Shield will be ok when Oathkeeper comes out. I replied, that I think that most people won't be using Savagery, but will rather be using the Oathkeeper's new auto-attack instead. Hope this makes it more clear
