Default [PvP] Mod - Early Development

I wasn't sure if this post should go into the Projects subforum or here, but since there isn't going to be an upload in this thread, I went with the Discussion subforum.

Introduction
This Thread is about figuring out how many are interested in PvP, gathering different ideas and starting a PvP "community".
The issue with PvP is: you need others to do it with. So if I just went ahead and made the mod, uploaded it and surprise everyone, finding someone to PvP with may be difficult and it would fail before it even started. In regard to this I decided to make this post, not to find out if it is worth making, but to warn those interested in it.
I have not started anything yet, because I am still working on the Mastery Tool, but releasing an alpha version for a PvP Mod will follow after I have finished the Tool. If you are wondering where it came from: Kathanious brought it up and I couldn't sleep that night, because my brain started working on solutions and ways to make it happen. So all of this is in an early planning and ideas stage where it could fail at any given point, like PvP limitations or crashes. Information regarding PvP in Grim Dawn are appreciated and not only that I need it .

Features
Let's go over the things that came up discussing it with Kathanious and make a list of that and ideas posted in this Thread, I'll write down everything and drop it when the time has come to work it in or not, however, I won't add things where I know for certain it's not possible. And keep in mind, this is a mod for a game with everything on your harddrive, this means cheating is possible, so it's up to you to find those to play with that are taking this seriously.

Balance
  • New Masteries (PvP) [replacing vanilla]
    • Basic Skills
    • Playstyle Mastery
      • Attribute Requirements for items
      • Charge for Melee/Teleport for Ranged
      • Slow effects for ranged
      • ...
    • PvP Mastery
      • Crowd Control
      • Heals
      • ...
  • New Items [replacing vanilla/using the same dbr, so you cannot use vanilla items]
    • Advanced Skills
    • Upgradable Gear (using currency you get from winning PvP)
    • Attribute Requirements (a Wizard is likely not going to be able to wear a heavy armor piece because he won't have the physique)
  • Overhauled Leveling System
    • Level == PvP Rank
      • Mastery
      • Item Requirements
      • ...
    • Monsters don't grant exp only PvP does
  • Stat Increases need to be small, otherwise you wouldn't stand a chance against a rank 100 PvP Character

World
  • new Maps [replacing Campaign]
  • Random spawn locations on the map
  • Different Modes
    • Arena (1v1 or 1v1v1v...)
    • Random Monster spawns
    • Capture The Flag (alike)
    • Cutthroat (PoE inspired) limited support (no components/augments/affixes), details still need to be worked out

I'm most likely not going to play this mod myself, so you are only hurting yourself if you don't participate in this discussion

I'm certainly interested in the idea of pvp for grimdawn. Question is, how will you design the mechanics? In order for pvp to really work, I think you shpuld build it moba style with set skills and classes making a core design of pvp based around that idea. Also to incorporate are ideas from crucible ect.... If balanced, and coded right, you could be looking at a very fun game.

yeah it needs to be a full rework, I don't see it happening with vanilla masteries/items. The balance would be terrible, it's just not designed for it.

I think so, too.
If and when this is happening I'll start with just a few skills each class, a few items, low level cap and go from there, I feel like that's better than making a huge mess with dozens of skills and trying to fix it.
Exactly, and if you want help with the mod testing, I would be more then willing to help with the feedback.

Thanks, I sure need a few willing to test an "Alpha" version

Right now I'm thinking about making it a bit more PvE focused than intended, that would at least give players something to do while waiting on others to join for PvP.

If you make a sort of arena that is balanced for the use of "teleport" that could be another mobility skill to make some use of.

It could be amazing!! If you need help for testing or trying ask me without problems!I'm also trying to recreate a pvp community in sacred underworld with tunngle and here, since these are my favourite games!
