Default Easter Egg Idea

This randomly came to me while reading Eis's Loot thread in the Features forum. I thought it might be cool if, in each of the game's levels or areas, was a single well-hidden Magnificent Crate breakable (a plug for the developers, if you didn't catch that) that is a veritable pinata of money and loot. Maybe just a teeny-weeny bit overpowered so that hunting these things down is a rewarding way to kill some time. If the game is released on Steam, there could even be an achievement for getting all of them.

Magnificent Crates should definitely have their spawn frequency set pretty low, and a variety of possible locations, so they don't simply become cheap farming tools, but legitimate quests in and of themselves when players don't feel like advancing content.

Only few people would get this:

I would imagine it's a tongue-in-cheek reference to that fact.

It could also be a reference to the idea that crates in games often when opened contain goodies.
Wow, I can't believe Betrayer is the only one who got this... you guys...

I guess the simplest explanation would be that "good things" generally come out of crates in the world of gaming.

However, there is also a bit of a deeper, more philosophic meaning to it that is tied into our game-making ideology. I have to take off for the night but I think I may actually do a write-up on this for the dev-discussions section in the next couple days.
Scientific research has proven that people are expected to complain about in-game crates, which resembled Crate's company logo too much.

I think we never saw this write-up of medierra ... but for once I like an easter egg idea

This could actually work... but it would have to definately drop awesome loot to make it worth while. Maybe they could do something like the TQ defiler but for the "super crate" only, so it always drops blue or higher. Good job thinking on that idea SF!

Being a whore for collecting loot, I love this idea. It offsets the constant need to progress, progress, progress. Giving the player a few extra things to do, that are solely optional, are always well received even if some players wont do them.

Yeah, it definitely needs to be well-hidden. The idea behind this would be a nice reward for some deep exploration into the game's environment, not an alternate method of farming.

If it's as rare as your making it sound, it definately wouldn't work as an alternate method of farming Super Crate FTW!

They could also have the player character meticulously open any crate and barrel (trying not to damage it) being rewarded with quality loot for doing so.

Chests on the other hand would be breakable items that the player just destroys for the fun of it, but that only drop whites and greys.
