Default Multiplayer non-instanced loot

Someone knows how this works?

With instanced loot if you kill a boss in a game with 4 people loot drops for 4 people. It doesn't matter where the other players are. If everyone leaves the area (possibly for a while) when you return the instanced loot has been de-allocated and you can pick up drops for 4 people.

Without instanced loot I thought the amount of drops would be the same but my very limited testing seems to indicate you get drops sufficient for one person. In other words with 4 players in the game the non-instance loot option means there will be 1/4 of the amount of loot dropped.

If that is the case why does the option even exist? Who wants loot ninjas and no loot anyway?

Stealing loot from my friends was one of my favorite parts of Titan Quest.
