Default Area expansion idea

I think once you have collected a certain amount of a rare item or just reach a certain level that you should be able to travel to the realm of the Chthonians and/or the Aetherials. In these places you will be able to see what their society is like and also destroy it. Also, there is a boss idea in this, the king/leader of the species.

medierra has already stated that in (original not expansion) GD you will be able to visit their homeworlds. He said nothing about a boss though, and personally I would rather stay away from our hero being the guy that strikes down the biggest baddest Aetherial/Chthonian to save the day. GD is a gritty story, and victories over the enemies should be in small amounts imho. Killing an enemy captain here, a dangerous war beast under Aetherial/Chthonian control, etc. We shouldn't be able to strike down one bad guy for the win. I just don't like it when games end like that...

I'm going to side with Younghappy. A victory should be small, saving a few people, a town, defeating a minor enemy (like a major or lieutenant).

Also it has been stated that your progress will not be capped by your characters strength. You will be able to progress into higher level areas by walking there, not by reaching a level or by gearing up.

But yes, we all want to see their realms and well, do what ARPG players do and go beat things to death for loot and XP. And yes I would enjoy to see their society.

We will travel to rift areas multiple times - even in the initial release - see the map in State of the Game Address.

As for the scope of any boss encounters:

So, you'll probably be fighting a unique enemy character at the end of Grim Dawn, but it won't be a god or even necessarily a huge monster (although I'm sure you'll fight some of those along the way). It will most likely be a battle with a powerful enemy captain and elite soldiers where you're trying to destroy an important enemy asset that is threatening the survival of the people at Devil's Crossing. [...]

You will sometimes encounter groups of Aetherial and Chthonian forces fighting one another but the Chthonians won't really have a big appearance until our next release.
... also see In the grips of a complex, multi-sided conflict
