Default Firefox addon warning

I thought I would give a heads up on this.

Basically, on November 14, firefox V57 will be released, (currently in nightly builds) However, from this point on, all XML based addons WILL CEASE TO FUNCTION!!!!

Basically, web extension addons will be supported from here on in. So what does this mean? well, from sources I read, addon writers like no script are having a bit of a job moving to this new standard, (this is especially true for addblocker plus) due to the differences in the standards. Which also means, unless the addon does get updated, it will no longer function, but here is the problem, firefox has loads of addons and most probably will not get updated due to the hassle involved in updating the scripts.

addblocker plus and no script are in the process of getting updated, but plenty won't be. so if you have a heavy modded firefox, then expect many of the scripts to no longer work and might have a job of finding replacements.

Anyway, I thought I would let you all know.

Um, been considering switching from my old IE10 to Firefox, but I like AdBlocker so that's another point for hanging on to IE10.

Btw anyone know how to get rid of multiple tabs in Firefox? I hate having more than one tab open at a time (one of the reasons I didn't update to IE11 and not yet to Firefox). What I'm talking about is getting rid of the + icon. Can't find anything in their options that let's me do it.

On my version just right click on the tool bar where the + is then drag it off and you should be good.

You should right click on the bar then click on customise then drag the + sign off, and like I said, there is addblocker plus for firefox, and that like I said is getting updated for the web extension framework. As is no script is is a script blocker, and pretty useful.

I don't have many addons, but for those that do, the above changes will be annoying at least, (converting and finding replacements for addons)

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/fir...ublock-origin/

This is (imo at least) a better adblocker and it's already web extension ready.

installed, thanks for the heads up on that one, just have to wait for no script to be updated, as those two are the main addons I use.

Thanks folks, that seems to have worked for the unwanted tab.

Cheers for the info, just a shame that Mozilla started before next month, half of my addons are now marked legacy and some have stopped working, or only partial work. No Script is only semi working, in the most annoying way going, it still blocks and works, but the icons for it and messages about blocked content have vanished and cannot be shown, there's no way I could find to allow what I wanted without disabling No Script totally....really don't like having scripts running everywhere.

Hope NS gets updated and back to working again.
