Worse still are those brands named after people that didn't actually exist.

"J. Crew" and "See Jane Work" are some examples.

I could forgive something like "Bubba Gump Shrimp Co." because from popular culture we know Bubba and Gump are fictional.

But J. Crew? Sounds an awful lot like J.C. Penney (who actually existed).

Reminds me of "J.T. Marlin" from Boiler Room.

A bit like J.R.R Tolkien and George R.R. Martin.

I know it's his given name. But come on, he is a fantasy-writer and of courese he is trying to ride the same wave as Tolkien. His pen-name could just as easily have been George Martin, or Grumple McSlowduck.
