Now they're copypasting comments from political news sites. What the fuck.

Aaand he dropped his spam payload in GD. Sportsball stream links.

And it's gone, yay.

So we have the Chinese spambots, a Korean one, and a smattering of other ones that use assorted tactics. I have to wonder why they're choosing this forum to dump spam on. You'd think they'd choose a more generalized (subject-matter wise) forum or whatever. (Maybe they already do)

No idea how they choose which forums to try, but the ones I see most of on my other forum are cheap kitchens, male enhancement products, male/female supplements, hair products, movies/tv episodes, etc. Got one a while ago - Swiss based forum and spammer was based in the US advertising a rubbish removal company in Sydney, Australia. Last one I did recently was get a hair transplant in Delhi. At least with our Asian friends we don't know what they're trying to sell us.

Spambots target any forums with easily-accessible new member postings. This is one of the few forums I visit that allows new members to seamlessly sign up and post as much as they want with no restrictions (aside from links).

There are time restrictions as well - which is why you see them posting at around 2 minute intervals. The website won't allow them to post any quicker.

No, don't think so - location may play a part though. I say that because the Swiss based forum I belong to has never had the Asian spammers we get here and I've never seen spammers for cheap kitchens, etc, here. I assume the GD forum is US based - so different location, different spammers. My Swiss based one gets a lot from India, but that's the farthest east they go.

Honestly, if I was a spammer I would want my spam to go everywhere it possibly could. Spam works best, like all advertising, when as many people as possible see it. Restricting my spam on the basis of such arbitrary selectors as language or relevance would be bad for business.

I would guess that any patterns you think you are seeing in the distribution of spam is accidental, or caused by some forums having better prevention in place than others, or other such reasons. A spammer who restricts the scope of their spam is just a bad spammer, and will probably be out of business soon.
