Default Most important criteria when selecting a class to play

This poll assumes that you are creating a character for a brand-new game that does not yet have skill-calcs, GameFAQ walkthroughs, and that you haven't pounded into the dirt on SUPALEETGENDARY difficulty 90 times.

(Poll is multiple choice)

is there a summoner ?

can I summon fairly quickly or does it take a ridiculous amount of time (6 seconds to summon one skeleton in Rift)?

if it takes too long to summon then is there an elementalist ranged class I can play ?

if not, then is there an elementalist melee class I can play ?

if not, is there a javelin or spear class I can play ?

if not, then is there another game I can play ?

Is there a mage class with super cool looking spells or spells that can freeze, or spells that have really unique characteristics? (after taking 100 damage, this spell becomes unlocked and receives one stack. The spell deals damage equal to the number of stacks * (skill level). Max stacks is X.. < that's what I would love to see or something similar)

How about someone with heals?

A stealth char?

I go for those in most games. Ranged/Caster/Healer/Stealth is my gameplay... not all in one, obviously lol.

Something that wears heavy armor and uses long sharp pointy things cut stuff up and to crack skulls with.

what I like most is a Player utilising melee warfare, which can generally stand toe to toe with any foe, even bosses, although sometimes its best and safer to kite. wearing heavy armour helps to tank mobs and with some heavy hitting weapons (sapros and folg).

but eventually i tend to try other characters to see what developers had in mind and try to beat the game with a mage or ranged toon. after all variety aids replayability.

Pets. Preferably tons of them (without annoying timers).

I wouldn't lump utility together with jack of all trades, I consider utility to be like support or "funny stuff you can't really categorize as damage or tanking".

I'm mostly after AoE since I think the aspect of "more mobs/risk, more damage/reward" is really satisfying, but I'll take anything as long as it's fun. I've played fun healers (guild wars monk comes to mind), tanks (Aion templar has some really fun "get over here!" yanks), and support/utility/hybrid.

I think the class I'm least likely to pick is the rogue or single target damage dealer. I just want to run into a crowd and lay waste, and it's such a stick in the mud having to take dudes out individually, regardless of how fast it may be.

I choose "Other: Gut feeling", or something along those lines

My picks: high survivability, complementary skills, and long-term scalability/potential

This is a good poll; thanks for posting it.

From RPGs I learned to go for healing. TQ taught me to go for AOE.
