I'm a canuck... and while the selection is nearly as wide as the US Netflix, there is still a lot of selection overall. Anime was always a tough find for me unless i bought it from Amazon or the like. To have as much of a selection as they have is great. When I first started watching anime back in the early 80s, the only way we could do it was to import the movies from Japan at about $80 a pop. And the movies we received had no English subtitles or dub. It's what spurred me on to learn Japanese.

I really do love FLCL. That's just exactly my kind of humor.

And I do love all the works of Hayao Myazaki - but especially Nausicaä - which also happens to be the only Manga I own (bought the complete collection a long time ago).

I also liked "Neon Genesis Evangelion", "Ghost in the Shell" + "Stand alone Complex", "She, the Ultimate Weapon", "Kamichu!", "Haibane Renmei", "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya", "Gunnm", "Ergo Proxy", "Last Exile", "Serial Experiments Lain", "Witch Hunter Robin", "Gunslinger Girl", "Chobits", "Elfenlied", "Kare Kano", "D.N. Angel", "Ai Yori Aoshi" and many others.

But I absolutely can't stand stuff like Dragonball, Naruto and similar stuff, as well as anything that is purely based on the faulty equation of "awkward = funny".

Edit: I also like Titan A.E. a lot.
Some western Otakus might not consider this "Anime" since it's not from Japan - but any Japanese would call it Anime, so why shouldn't I?

Chobits was an amazing series. Loved it. As to was Witch Hunter Robin. Thinking of both of those reminded me of another two series I enjoyed in Oh My Goddess! and Full Metal Alchemist.

I've never heard of FCLC, so will have to investigate - it sounds interesting.

And Titan AE should have received more credit imho. I watched it again not long ago.

When I was a child Titan AE was my favourite movie, I owned it on VHS and watched it many, many times. Now that you mentioned it I want to watch it again. It is on Canadian Netflix.

I did not enjoy Naruto or Dragonball either, not that they are bad, just not for me. Also Bleach because it's characters are pretty bland.
Depends on how awkward is funny, too awkward is just that, too awkward.
Also watched Full Metal Alchemist, might watch Brotherhood. Chobits is on my to watch list, CLAMP makes very good manga and anime.

If you're interested in the real ending to the series and something closer to the manga, then Brotherhood is a must watch.

elfen lied? escaped experimentee gets murderous telekinetic revenge. it's a little uh, kinky? reminds me a little of _Species_

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetes
planetes? garbage collectors...In Spacceeee! with occasional mandatory vacations on earth. not kinky at all unless you're terribly turned on by diapers. Really great though, highly recommend it.

one is a little psychedellic, and the other is very day in the life. i forget which is which :P

I'll advance Accel World. it's got a fat chubby, dareisay, chibi everygeek hero.

I'll second Moribito.

Ah, lost my train of thought, I'll have to reboot with Jorgamund. arms dealer/smuggler with a heart of gold? somewhere?

I think i'm seeing a pattern between planetes and jorgamund, probably just a coincidental juxtaposition. i think i like heroic mercenary shows.

That is what I heard, I watched the first eight or so episodes a while ago. Just watched the first episode of Planetes, probably going to keep watching.

Well, if you have watched the last few episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion (and who hasn't?) then you know how crazy Gainax anime can get.

FLCL is just as crazy - but from beginning to end, and with a much lighter mood. Actually I think it's the perfect feel-good medicine.

Many people don't like it, because they feel what's going on just makes no sense - but you can't interpret the plot literally. Many things are purely metaphorical.

So all in all it's a great, psychedelic trip, served with a great soundtrack from The Pillows, and lot's of bat-shit crazy humor.

I started reading it yesterday (yay for MangaStorm on the iPad!). I have to say, it reminds me a bit of "Run Lola Run" in terms of style right now :P

Default Full Metal Alchemist

Actually enjoyed both the original, and Brotherhood.. Though I have no idea if I've seen the entire series. Netflix has Brotherhood through Season three.
I'm hoping there's more (or will be), but only time will tell.
