In League of Legends there is a feature called smartcast where whenever you press a key that a target-able ability is mapped to, it automatically casts the ability wherever the mouse is pointed. Is anything like this already implemented, and if not, why not?

This is basically how Diablo 3 works, too, and I have to say it's really handy. My experience with Titan Quest is limited, and I haven't really explored the skills extensively. My only key-mapped skills are passives at the moment. So I don't know if we'll get this, but I hope so. It will make things so much easier, and AoE skills will be a breeze to position properly.

I really only use passive spells on TQ and D2 because actives are not as easily accessible as I'm used to, such as when playing League. This really makes active spells much easier to use.

From memory the targeting of skills will be similar to TQ, where you pressed your hot key and then clicked where you wanted to cast it, I think that some skill will have a instant cast when you hit the hotkey, similar to the beam attack shown in some of the movies.
EDIT: Check out this Thread for more discussion on smartcasting ideas. Last edited by nighteyes; 07-23-2012 at 12:28 AM. |

Personally I feel that even non-castable skills should be very responsive. In most ARPG's the skill isn't used automatically when clicked upon. Yesterday I've re-installed TQ:IT and found it rather annoying that when you click a skill it didn't activate immediately. When pressing a skill it should override whatever you're doing at be used instantly. Standing still doing nothing for a few seconds just to get a skill activated is wasting a few precious seconds that monsters can hit you. Not to mention it is frustrating in due time. It is one of the few things that D3 has done really well.
