BTW
Can I get some of your impressions & opinions on the fact that this port will be capped at 30 fps & the resolution will be maxed at 720p ? I ask because I keep arguing with some people that argue that this is going to be a "lazy", "shoddy", "buggy" port because it doesn't go up to 60 fps and doesn't allow for a 1080 resolution. The reason why this doesn't bother me is because... A) It was always stated to be a "direct port", and... B) From Software (developer) has zero experience with working on PC games. This is literally their very first PC game. I believe that they should be cut some slack, but I keep getting into arguments with some because they consider it a "crappy" port and they "hope it fails"... Is that even fair ? Is it an easy thing or a difficult aspect to raise a console port's frame-rate to 60 fps and raise resolution to 1080p (from 720).? Can someone enlighten me ? |

It depends entirely on the engine used and the way it was developed. In theory, no it shouldn't be too hard, and a semi-dedicated modder could probably find that information inside the executable if its hard-coded and alter it (and possibly write a patcher to allow others to do so as well).
The blowback from altering though could have cascading effects into other parts of the game that rely on the resolution (the UI in particular is not likely to properly adjust to an increased resolution, and that's not quite as simple to tweak/fix), or higher frame rates. However, since the primary goal they are looking at is the quickest and simplest route to a running PC version, this is time and resources they'd have to invest into "adjusting" for. |

I very much doubt that lazyness has anything to do with it. I'm sure that the devs are super proud of their work and would jump on any chance to make it as good as possible for every platform possible. The decision of how much work goes into it is up to Namco.
If it really is the case that it's capped in fps and resolution, I'm guessing it's a matter of "either this is the way we do it, or it won't be feasable to do the port at all" - in which case I'm glad they are doing it in the first place.

Game is up for preorder on steam now. The final verdict on GFWL is "yep", but at least the price is a digestible $40 (or $49 for us europeans).

Dark Souls. By far the best console game I've ever played and in my top 3 games of all time. Looking forward to the PC release. I still think about buying a PS3 just to play Demon's Souls.

Thanks guys! If it hadn't been for reading this thread, Demon Souls would still be gathering dust on the shelf. After reading all your posts, I decided to give it another shot and was it ever fun! I finally got past the couple of places I'd been stuck in! Made me wonder why I thought it was so freakin hard the first time through ><;
I did take several pieces of advice from ya'll. One of the better ones was to start a new toon. Worked wonders for me and ya'll gave me confidence to suck it up and just be plain stubborn! Now if you'll excuse me *cracks metaphorical knuckles* it's back into the fray I go! |

![]() I'd pre-order in a flash if my finance would allow me to do so. But I'll surely be there to see the launch, for god damn sure. I ain't missin' this one. My first double dip ever, and it's all worth it. Also, bluswordgrl, it's funny. First time I tried Demon's Souls at my friend's place I actually didn't get into it at all. When Dark Souls was released I just thought "oh what the hell" and went and bought it... And god damn I was hooked. Haven't played that much in ages. Lots of sleepless nights, or more like mornings since my sessions extended a "bit". After I finished up my session with Dark Souls, I just HAD to buy Demon's Souls as well. It is also great but Dark Souls easily still does take the crown in my opinion. I seriously hope for more Souls... They can't quit now! Last edited by Shinrou; 07-16-2012 at 11:50 PM. |

[QUOTE=Shinrou;65910]Same for me. Except I'm narrowing down it to top 2 games of all time in my case.
![]() You will not outdo me! Top 2 it is!

New video of the PC version showing the all new content area...or at least part of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjWmq...&feature=g-u-u The guy in the vid playing doesn't look like he's doing a good job. I don't know if he is a newb or just being distracted by talking or what..? Some of you DS fans should recognize the area.....(hint...it takes place 300 years earlier). FYI Those of you who are not familiar with the lore of Dark Souls.... The Knight Artorias at the end of the video was mentioned in the console version as being this famous (bad-ass) knight that was corrupted by the Abyss. But he lived like 300 years prior. This new content that was added to the PC version allows you to travel back in time like 300 years, and so you get to confront him & find out more about the lore concerning him. I for one am very anxious to play this. BTW The lore in Dark Souls isn't very well spelled out, as the game isn't very story driven. Much of the information must be gleamed through by talking to various NPC's and whatnot. Its got some really cool lore, but you have to dig in the game to find it. Just thought I'd mention that in case some of you don't like your games to be stingy with the lore..? One of the interesting things about this video & content is that it involves an area that is in the main game, but some 300 years later...so it is much darker and pretty much in ruins. Its just interesting to play a part from the past that shows the same area completely transformed from an earlier time. Last edited by shawnmck; 08-10-2012 at 02:45 AM. |
