True, but Grim Dawn will only benefit from using different distribution channels if you consider increased visibility alone. And for a game with a limited marketing budget extra visibility is always a good thing.

Of course.

We will be considering all of our options.

Please don't get me wrong. I admire you for being independent and gamer friendly (the no DRM part).

Small developers like Crate are much to my liking unlike the behemoths of the industry which focus on milking more money and killing creativity in the process.

There are many gamers out there who might love Grim Dawn but don't know about it so I do my best to spread the word on different forums.

How did I found out about Grim Dawn you ask?

1. Reference on Torchlight 2 site goes to the back of my mind.
2. Reference to Titan Quest in Diablo 3 discussions on Amazon.
3. I buy titan Quest Gold and check official site.
4. On Titan Quest site I find a link to Grim Dawn and a bell rings (see 1.)
5. I check Grim Dawn site and I am amazed by what i see (how did I miss that?).
6. I pre-order Grim Dawn.

Fair enough, but it's kind of hard to get Master of Orion 2 directly from a company that doesn't exist anymore :/

Question Thoughts about GoG.com from IronTower, and an idea for you.

Im a big fan of GoG.com and what they provide to gamers. DRMfree solutions to allow everyone to enjoy their games at anytime and anyplace.

That said the only other RPG that Ive been following "Age of Decadence" said in a very upfront way that they are going to release though GoG.com and gave a reason why. It boils down to to the following:

GoG loves there customers
They not only sell games but play them
They spend the time to get to know the devs and there product

If your interested in working with GOG.com they have a contact Email: WeLoveDevs@gog.com

here is the story from the man himself at IronTower: http://www.irontowerstudio.com/forum...ic,3228.0.html

My idea is this: release on steam, desura etc... but come to GoG.com as well. You are already going DRMfree from your own standpoint so why not use GOG.com as another avenue for release to reach a global market? And with their community and notification system get patches built in at install time and reduce user stress

Without them i would have never known of games like Legend of Grimrock, Defenders Quest or Inquisitor. All of which I thoroughly enjoyed, and with Grimrock DRMfree and not locked into install limits or always-online whatever, I take it with me on my travels. nothing like dungeon delving 30,000 feet in the sky

I'm pretty much a newb to this.
So what exactly does GoG.com offer that steam doesn't?
I always play my games on the same computer, so I haven't got much experience with playing games anywhere.

Ive included a screenshot of what you can expect from a GOG release. They come with a singular installer and patches if needed, or there is the option of rolling the patch into the main installer. It works on various Operating systems as you can see and they strive to make it fully compatible with most windows versions.

Extras are also included. as with Grimrock it comes with a map, music, avatars, some sketches photos and other stuff.

some have entire games and/or books what ever the dev wants to include. a great example is Divinity 2 as shown in attachments, books, movies, and a dev game that never made it to daylight. and its version 1.1.0 a rolled in patch so only 1 download.

and by files i mean they are yours, self installing EXE's or you can use any archive utility to extract yourself. they are guaranteed DRM free.

Steam requires you to be online, and if you forget to make your install "offline" you cannot play your games. If you go offline you get about 2 months then your client and needs to re-authenticate online.

gog.com does not do this, download your games keep them forever until the end of time. they are yours completely.

Hi Starkrun - I thought it would be nice to continue this discussion from last year. From the Kickstarter comments:

We'll provide a direct download through us and then also put it on various distribution sites for people who prefer to download it there and also to get the game in front of more people. [...] Our plan has always been direct download and Steam; then we'll look at other distributors like GoG and such.

Actually, for us, other than the exposure of being on Steam, it is much more profitable to sell directly on our website. The only reason we distribute on other services is when a large number of fans request / suggest it. For example, we've had a number of requests for GoG, so that is something we're considering also.

No need of a third party client, faster (WAY faster) download time, manual/music/goodies separated from the game itself and an awesome customer support (at least in my experience).

Got similar result on the humble store (and humble bundles), that you can even download in command line or use torrent.

I don't use ANY features of Steam (friend list, cloud saves, DRM...) so why bother with?
