I do believe that Risen is one of the games that's free to play (with advertising) on that new GamersGate service, whatever it's called.
Clunky wouldn't exactly be the way I described combat in Risen. Totally ineffectual till you're at or nearly capped in the appropriate stat and skill is a little closer. Very badly tuned. You're going to feel like an utter weakling for the better part of 2/3rds of Risen. Things will routinely eat you in 2 or 3 hits, gang up on you in packs of 3 or more most of the time, and your damage is as minimal as possible without being zero.

They did a much better job with Two Worlds (at least as far as the second one is concerned).

Head on over to GOG.com and get yourself Ultima Worlds of Adventure 1 & 2 absolutely free, no strings attached. To be honest I didn't even know about these Ultima series spinoffs before, but at that price I guess it can't hurt to give them a spin.

Commandos 3 was a big let down in my opinion. In an effort to make a faster paced game they sacrificed much of the tactical gameplay, which is what made the series great in the first place. Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive is closer to the first two Commandos than Commandos 3, and consequently it's also my favorite of that "series" (I kind of consider Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive and Robin Hood: Legend of Shewrwood to be part of the Commandos series). Still, at that price Commandos 3 is worth a look for anyone who hasn't played it. Thanks for the heads up, Revenent.

3 was a let down, I really liked 2, which I think is the best of the series

I also wasn't keen on some of the timed missions in three, they really destroyed the game outright, as it forced you to do stuff too quickly, and some of the missions were really hard as a result, as many missions in 2, were very long, and you had to take your time to overcome many of the enemies. so 3 really was a letdown in every sense of the word

Deus Ex weekend sale on Steam. Haven't gotten it yet, still not sure about it.

Anyway, here's some information that could help me decide;

Yeah, I just took it off my wishlist as this is the second time it has been 75% off and I do not buy it. I still havs mass effect 2, never installed, and the old deus ex games as well as fear 2, e.y.e., half-life expansions and a ton of other games that I do not ever feel like playing...

September is the target date for my next FPS. I pre-ordered Borderlands 2 with the bobble head that is going into my car as soon as it arrives.

I just cannot get into cover based shooters. I prefer mass carnage to stealth for some reason.

Love the flow chart - my problem now is that games get on to my wishlist too easily. Any chance of a diagram that will combat that?
