Hey guys,
I am about to buy my first SSD, and I still can't pick one between these two: Intel 520 120GB SSD or Crucial M4 128 GB I am more inclined for the Intel, because their 5-year warranty, own firmware, therefore almost no firmware issues, great software and just all other goodies. The only flaw it seems to have is, it might be a bit slower than the Crucial one, which also does not seem bad (best 2011 SSD according to Tom's hardware and some other rewards from other sites). So, anyone with the knowledge of these things willing to help me, please? =) Thanks! i.n.s.a.n.e

I bought the Crucial M4 128GB 3 Months ago actually. I also asked around a bit, and settled for the Crucial one. Unfortunately I forgot all the facts, lol, but the general consensus was that the Crucial SSD is reliable and fast. A value-for-money hardware. Intel is also good, so I believe it is a toss-up.

One more thing - does anyone of you use it for playing/storing games? Because, well, it is almost the only thing I do on my home computer.........does it have any impact? I am hearing not that much from few sources of mine..

What type of motherboard do you have and are you already running in AHCI?
I did the SSD thing and really wish I had not, it is an older motherboard and getting the BIOS into AHCI required a complete BIOS firmware update followed by a complete windows install and then I found that the BIOS in AHCI mode is super slow to start and it's performance is finicky as disks spin up and down and basically, everything is slower if not the same speed as before the SSD disk. For the brand, I ended up with a Corsair as they have the best write performance...No idea if I can recommend it or not really as my motherboard is just not a good enough component to test it. |

I'm using the Crucial M4 in my rig, raises my WEI to 7.8
getting read speeds of around 450 mb/s. I've never used an Intel SSD before, so I can't speak for it, but I've used Crucial in my build and several client's builds and they haven't failed me yet.
