Default Another Kickstarter? Yes, Another Kickstarter, Shadowrun Returns

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...dowrun-returns

Quote:
Shoot Straight. Conserve Ammo. And Never Cut a Deal With A Dragon.

Jordan Weisman, the creator of Shadowrun, is back and Shadowrun Returns (for Apple & Android tablets and PCs) is the game that Shadowrun fans have been waiting for a long time. A graphically rich 2D turn-based single player game with deep story interaction, meaningful character development, and highly-contextual tactical combat, Shadowrun Returns is not only going to make some old geeks (like us) very happy but it will introduce new players to a dynamic gaming universe that is beloved around the world.

Created almost 25 years ago, Shadowrun remains one of the most original and cherished role-playing settings. The game world’s origin story mashes-up the dystopian Cyberpunk future of a Blade Runner with the high fantasy creatures and races of a Lords of the Rings in an organic way that produces iconic characters, environments, and situations.
Interesting. I briefly played the pencil & paper Shadowrun waaaaaaay back in the day (briefly because it was at the very tail end of my pencil & paper RPG days) but have never played any of the video game iterations. Anyone here have any experience with Shadowrun video games? Cyberpunk + High Fantasy always seemed like it would work very well in a video game setting IMHO.

Looks cool, I'm not old enough to really know shadowrun, but the lore seems incredible and would make an awesome game.

Grim Dawn? Check.
Wasteland? Check.
Shadowrun? Yeah I'll check that too when I get home.

Let the good times roll? Now all we need is someone to throw their hat into the arena with some old classic D&D remakes or sequels and it'll be like reliving the 80s and 90s. Mmm....

Really glad to see this Kickstarter boom lately, more great games to come.

As for Shadowrun, I've briefly played the SNES game on an emulator a few years ago but didn't get into it too much as I was currently playing some other SNES game that had my attention unfortunately, so I don't have much to say on that one. Then I've played the FPS game on Xbox360 which I really enjoyed. Aside from those two games, I haven't had much experience with the series so I don't know too much of what to expect.

That being said, I am looking forward to see what comes of this upcoming game as well as more Kickstarter projects like the ones mentioned.

Wow it seems we had the same idea about posting this Kickstarter!
I haven't much experience with the first game but i've played a bit of the 360 one which was a fun shooter but saddly didn't take any advantage of the world's background story.

Killing a dragon with an automatic rifle was satisfying. I used to play this on PNP...

I went ahead and pledged $15. I enjoyed the pencil & paper game for the brief time I played it (you better believe I played an ork) and always thought it was a fantastic setting (cyberpunk is right up there with steampunk as far as my favorite settings go). Even not having played any of the video game iterations, I have a good feeling about this one.

Definitely thinking about kicking in for this - even gets me wanting to play the PnP version with my gaming group!

I owned the SNES version of Shadowrun. I always found it interesting, but never got too deep into it. It seemed like a title I liked the idea of, but either the controls or some other aspect kept me from progressing very far in it. Did no one else play this when it originally came out? Not sure if the title was just obscure or if I'm getting too old. Apparently there was a Genesis version as well that played differently, but I only owned a SNES.

I'd say it has potential, and the fact that this same guy created Battletech is encouraging, but I'm not sold yet in the same way I am with Wasteland 2 and the Banner Saga. Their pedigree is not quite what Fargo's is game wise, and they have nothing to show yet, unlike the Banner Saga. They also seem to be designing for tablet accessibility from the start, which worries me that design may be impacted by streamlining or "dumbing down".

I may chip in the $15 to get involved, but I'll bide my time deciding. If this were a true Battletech game in the vein of Crescent Hawk's Inception, I'd probably already have donated.
