After watching the latest video I had an idea for a new status effect to do with the camera rotation.
I dont know if this is doable or even if it is a good idea but how about having a "disorient" or "dizzy" status effect that makes the camera view swivel or move around uncontrolably for a short time to simulate being dizzy or unsteady on your legs. Might mix up game play a lot. Would you like to see something like this? On second thoughts it might give people motion sickness...

I like the idea if you're going to show that something big is coming (so quickly rotate the camera left and right and/or up and down in small increments) or to show a quake of some sort...provided the camera returned to it's original starting point before the "shake" happens (but then can you still manually rotate during the shake/disorientation?).

I do kind of like the idea of screen-wide effects for certain things but I think just rotating the camera would seem mechanical and annoying. I think we'd have to do something a little more slick but also subtle.

TQ has camera shaking, which can be used for Crits. Poison (or DOTs in general) might be visualised by blur effects.

Please no camera spinning. I don't get motion sickness but that's just extremely annoying. By implementing a "spinning camera" effect, you end up messing up all your controls whenever you attempt to move. (i'm assuming that was the intended effect, not just the "drunk" feeling)
Blurry screen, I'm fine with. TQIT actually HAD a "dizzy" effect. Remember fumble? It created a spinning effect on the targets head, something associated with dizziness. The effect was - missing hits. I think that's fine for that, but a crazy spinning camera, way too much. But eisprinzessin brings up a good point - would it be possible to have damage types associated with screen effects or something similar? Bleed damage would cause the screen to turn reddish and have a few blood drops, or maybe just create an effect for the health bar to symbolize "hey you're bleeding asswipe, take care of that wound" Poison could be similar, turn the screen greenish, add some blur, create an effect on the health bar. (when I say create an effect, I mean like the start to finish of the poison damage) *shrug* Last edited by ASYLUM101; 03-19-2012 at 07:50 PM. |

I would like to strongly emphasize that I think poison (or DOTs in general) should be a graphical effect only and should not interfere with gameplay (unless something similar to "X% chance to miss" was explicitely stated). That shit would piss me right off if I died because I couldn't click on something accurately.

The idea of Asylum is good, but for a stunning what I think would be good is that the rotation should be harder to move our mouse like crazy to be able to move the view of the character. And the effects such poisons, spells, it would indeed be nice damage there have different effects on color and golfing bar Santee.

I really dislike any camera shake or things that are not simple to play with. I like shake for events (like when baal dies in diablo 2) but even that gets annoying at times. Graphical representation is always the best through colors or things shown over the head of characters (like maybe birds flying in a circle for stunned). Only thing I really dislike about changing colors is when games make your entire body green (like in diablo) from poison attacks. I know it is supposed to show you blatantly that you are under a dot, but it feels so unrealistic and silly at times. I can't provide anything better, but I am sure the smart people around here have some great suggestions. There has to be a way of showing poison... Maybe like plague in TQ where the effected character makes ... sick noises... and then has some sort of poison indication. In league of legends they show poison dots with a purple sphere overhead (i believe). It seems to work well. Not saying to copy it, but they found a way to show the effect without something that annoys me and it is quite visible even though it is not so obvious.
