Default Enemies Hidden Behind Doors

I'm not sure if this has already been discussed, but since there will be rooms and doors, the player shouldn't be able to see the enemies that are in rooms with closed doors.
That was one of the scariest parts of the original Diablo. You wouldn't know there was a room full of skeletons until you opened the door and they started wailing on you.

Well, it was not a discussion ... it just ended where it started:

So, good thing to reboot this in its own thread.

So far it looks, that roofs gets transparent, if you approach a building/room (the 3rd room's roof is still intact). But I'd assume you can adjust the trigger range for that (like you need to be in the door frame at least, before you can see the interior).

An actual line of sight sounds like a good idea to me when it comes to monsters (didn't D2 have this as well? I don't remember), but that might be hard to implement, perhaps making the room transparant upon opening the door would work than?

Adding line of sight to a game with a top-down view doesn't sound right. If doors were triggers to turn roofs invisible, that would work for me.

Well, line of sight is basically in all RTS games, all MOBA games (e.g. DotA, HoN, LoL), both having a top-down view (the MOBA genre stands pretty close to the typical loot-em-up game regarding camera aspects). You wouldn't be able to see monsters that hide behind trees, or just around the corner. Could be tricky, I agree. Could work very well as well.

I do not think Crate has the time and resources to test this out though.

If they had resources for this, it would be cool feature. I loved the "What the hell kills me now?" moments in D2 when I was about to open a door on Hell difficulty, hehe. =)

just steal the code from hon. Or rather look at how it was made and just make a vertion of itself in the grim dawn engine. P.S. if you do, please dont make it so that a single tree can hide a gigantic monster. The line of sight in hon is actually pretty bad, but good enough for simple modifications to perfect it.
