Default Classes Question

This may have already been covered at length, but I am just wondering if it has been confirmed how many classes there are and what a couple of those may be? thanks

I think that the class will be 5 and mix them in a way similar titan quest so you can choose 2 class per pg.

As far as we've been told, there will be 5 classes at initial release (probably more coming with DLC), they might have more skills to each class, you'll still be able to combine 2 classes.
The only class that's been partially confirmed (iirc) is a grenadier. Not sure about the rest.

Not entirely true. They also confirmed the "illusionist" and told us about his "blade veil" skill.

Medierra also mentioned there being a caster class dubbed the "bender" who casts spells similar to a dactyl's from TQIT. Telekinetic energy stuff. (bend reality, etc)

We've seen pics of guns, so there is a possibility of a ranged class, if the grenadier doesn't control that aspect already. (they confirmed there are "round changing" spells, like explosive rounds for your gun, etc.)

I'm sure there is a dedicated melee class as well that ISN'T an "illusionist" with a "blade veil" because that doesn't sound like a fighter class at all, more like an assassin.

So, grenadier, illusionist, bender - 2 of those 3 are for sure, the bender is just my take on it cause they've gone through detail explaining a few new caster mechanics, you'd imagine there to be a caster. And then the final 2 unmentioned classes - gunner and melee fighter.

Myeah, that sounds about right. I mean, games like these are usually tied to the 3 archetypes;
Ranger - any form of ranged character - gunner? maybe grenadier
Warrior - any form of melee character, often divided between fighter (offensive) and paladin (defensive, nothing to do with actual paladins)
Wizard - something that's reliant on spellcasting. Grenadier seems to best fit here

And than, since there will be 5 classes, the other two;
Summoner - summons units. I'm not sure if they'll include a dedicated summoner class in the first release, as it might entail a bit more work than a regular class, but I sure hope so.
And well, the freak class - there's always room for one unconventional class. It's actually a requirement for a game, to set it apart from others. Usually unconventional, tries to avoid as many archetypes as possible. Perhaps the illusionist?

I dunno, imo the direction grenadier seems to be going is a ranged/support class. Skills to change ammo types, long ranged grenades, and perhaps mines? Doesn't sound too much like a wizard, though knowing the TQ engine as well as I do, I imagine it probably will play like one. I think that grenadier is one of the "unconventional types" and can be played as a summoner if they include traps and mines as skills.

Medierra expressed his dislike for summoners in TQ already, since they're hard to manage/balance in TQIT due to the engine limitations, yadayada, I don't think you should expect to see a full out summoner, or even too many summons. It would be nice to see a couple at least, but I'm honestly not expecting much in this department.

Lastly - the illusionist seems sorta like some kind of rogue-class from how medierra described it way back when. We need to get a stickied post with the little blurbs medierra makes about various things so we can tack together the classes that have been confirmed...

I myself am dying to know what final classes will be.

Right now I am pretty committed to the soldier and demolition classes. Those two are pretty far along in development. We'll definitely have a caster but I'm not certain what direction ill go in with it yet. I have an assassiny type class started but haven't touched it in a while - will have to revisit and decide what to do with it. 5th class? No idea. Well, I have plenty of ideas but I haven't settled on one yet. In fact, it is probably a problem of wanting to do too many different things and having to pick one. My plan is to try to get the first 4 near completion and then see if I can finish a 5th.

Developing classes is extremely time consuming unfortunately. The tech for building skills is really frustrating to work with. If we had more time and programmers I'd start from scratch and try to develop a more flexible and robust system for creating skills. Oh well... GD2! lol...
