Active skills are a lot of fun, but not all skills should be active skills. I think TQ got this mostly right in that sense.

Torchlight got the active/passive skill system all wrong. Torchlight I had/have issues with because many of the buffs I would consider essential require recasting at an annoyingly frequent rate. For instance, my destroyer became annoying because I had to press so many buttons. It's been awhile, but I recall recasting frost shield, shadow armor, entropic aura, elemental resistance spell, haste spell, dervish, and likely some others I am still forgetting. Failure to do so meant risking imminent death on my very hardmode hardcore character. Things like auras should be passive and last until shut off. Having to recast is simply annoying. I thought the TQ energy reserve and energy drain systems worked well for these abilities. I also liked the way that abilities like Call of the Hunt and Colossus Form worked. They lasted long enough to be useful but carried a large enough cooldown to make their use strategic.

I hope Grim Dawn continues the TQ tradition of active and passive skills.

TLTR,

Wind slash (aoe damage)
Enchant weaponry (poison, fire, etc) Just look cool how the weapon trails when swinging.

Typhon "Thorns" skill where he sucks your blood! Awesome!

This was also my problem with TL, and I hope they eradicate it from TL2. It was such a strange idea to force players to have to recast so often when they will want these passive skills to run constantly. They had the power of a standard passive buff but lasted the length of a boss-killer/temporary passive such as Colossus form, which you mention.

So this was also one of my favorite points of TQ. The passive skills were done perfectly and I enjoyed them a lot.

I liked the sheilding. I could just explore in some places without worrying about monsters attacking me with those skills. I just really loved the graphics in Titan Quest. Someone did a lot of research into those areas. When I was a kid I lived in some places in Asia and the Asian areas really took me back. The grass was the right color and the bushes and trees were right. After going through Grecian and Asian areas I am sure the underworld was researched just as well .

If Titan Quest had continued I would have suggested an Aussie area with gum trees etc (which I tried to do in my activeworlds world when it was up).

1)
I like Ice Shards + synergies.
The level of progression feels good when investing in these skills, plus in endgame it is viable too.
Moreover you can enhance it with % cast speed.
I don't like cooldown spells like Lightning line if you have to rely on them as a main skill. (powerfull situational skills like collossus form are ok,though).
The thing with cooldown spells in TQ is, they are often annoying without - % recharge gear, but with -100% recharge they are simply too powerfull. Needs a better balance.

2)
Mostly all pets are well done/designed.
I second as well: To make them even more appealing make them upgrade visually by investing skills in them/their passives (even slight differences would be nice, sometimes less is more).

3)
I like auras.
Heart of the Oak, Deathchill, the trances, all were nice.
