Default form of kickstart by POE

This may be of interest to the developers as they prepare to do a kickstart. Path of Exile, which is going to be a free to play game, that is in closed beta, has just started selling packages through there online store. Some fo the packages are really ways for supporters to donate to the game, while recieving some cool incentives. Packages range from about $10 up to $1,000.

Maybe this will give you some ideas.

I just saw that myself. I think we want to start off doing a Kickstarter project because it has the added benefit of helping to spread awareness of Grim Dawn to new people. Later on maybe we will think about adding some higher-tier options on the website if people are interested in that.

The latest I have heard is that there have been 5-6 Diamond package purchasers, thats the $1,000 level, there have also been a number of the gold $500 level, and many bronze and silver level purchasers.

I feel uneasy about the model they are using for that game, so much so that I haven't invested any money in it yet.

Being a F2P game I can't see how it will survive without eventually becoming pay too win. The increased stash you can buy is already dubious and that's just the start. I would much rather they just let you buy the game and had a level playing field. It feels like the more cash you throw at it, the more shiny medals you will get. The 'Diamond Supporters' are already being treated like heroes with a forum tag, even if all they contributed to the game is massive load of cash. It will feel like the people who drive Ferraris in real life will also be driving Ferraris in the game, if you catch my drift . I hope you guys don't give a shiny forum tag based on how much cash you can afford to pay, these should be kept for the real contributors like eisprinzessin.

The way you guys have done it is better, which is why I bought a Legendary game very early on.

I agree, Dobster. Seeing that extra stash tabs are purchasable was... I'm not sure what it made me feel. Mixed feelings, I suppose. That said, I'm glad to see they aren't completely unreasonable: $3 per tab.

I wonder how many free character slots will be given at launch? That'd be really annoying if it was too low. Or if it's low, hopefully they're cheap.

They keep saying they are firmly against pay too win. If they waver from that, they'll never get a cent out of me, for anything. Hopefully they'll really flesh out the idea of things like purchasable (visual) spell effects and such so it becomes a solid source of income.

A little more on topic though: Everything they offered for purchase looks fairly well designed. The kiwi bird pets in-game art is nice. They're glowy! It almost made me want one when I saw the first one while I was playing last night. Then, after standing around doing things in town for a couple of minutes with two kiwi birds there... the idle sounds of them started to piss me off. I'd be turning it off after an hour or two, even if I had one!

Besides, I have to save my money for Grim Dawn's kickstarter

Class warfare in video games? Really?

Look, all it is is a forum tag, and some extra bank space. While I agree that generally, getting the full game for a fixed amount is usually a far better way of doing things, I can see what GGG is trying to do. Some of your concerns are very valid. However, I wouldn't say that having a fancy tag on a forum or owning a Ferrari irl doesn't necessarily mean you think you're better than others. Some people just enjoy spending their hard earned cash supporting things they beieve in, and some people just really like well made vehicles. I think you're putting the cart before the horse. The game isn't even out yet, it's a bit too early to tell wether or not what effect their way of doing things will really have.

I'm glad GGG did what they did and how they did

First of all, they gave us a wonderful game imo. They also made a good chunk of it available to the public early on a sliding scale. $10-$1000 thats a very wide margin and the only one you don't get a supporter tag is the 10 dollar amount so i can still drive a VW and get the tag showing my support of an awesome game and Dev's that care to stick by a promise of no pay to play and no pay to win

i seriously wish Grim Dawn will do the same, as i am sure it is also an awesome game unlike d3 which will probably most likely be fun but mediocre at best
