"Classic" or "Old School" is no excuse for low-details imo.
Is this supposed to be related to Siege of Avalon?

I don't see why not. If you play "old school" side scrollers, it better look exactly like mario bros or gradius.

But maybe beeing an indie development studio with only 3 employees is?
They make niche products that won't get bought by many people and they sell them for around 25 USD each. They won't get rich from that. Number of sold copies times (purchase price minus download server costs) has to at least equal production costs. "Number of sold copies" is the important point here. If you want a game with AAA graphics (or AA graphics too), you'll need to buy something that sells at least around half a million or a million copies. But that can't be a niche product then - so you'll have to stick to something more mainstream. As I read on their webpage, Spiderweb is around since 1994 and they made quite some games since then. Since all of their games aren't exaclty high-graphics, and being roundbased they all appeal to only a very small audience, there has to be something else, that is going for them. Possibly it's the depth of their combat systems, and their stories... If they had nothing else going for them, they wouldn't be around any more. |

Hm I think I should have described what I mean about "details".
I wasn't exactly commenting on the graphics, I would never do if it comes to indie-stuff and even in AAA-Titles I dont really care too much about it. What I meant was this: http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/ima.../AvLibrary.jpg It is a library with 6 bookshelves and some collums. There is basically nothing in this room. It feels extremely empty. http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/ima...AvLizFight.jpg Same for this wood. It feels so...empty. That's what I meant about "detail". Debris, Tiles, whateverever you may call it. The graphics seems to be quite fitting imo.
