I like GD's more realistic approach ... FF VIII is a great game, but does GD require such tribute items? Would GD even benefit from it?

The Gunblade is the most stupid, idiotic, unfeasible, imposable to construct and impractical to use weapon ever devised out of an unstable mind... and thats even counting the Rat Flail.

Who the hell decided that Adding a GIANT SWORD to a GUN was going to help with either the Gun being more accurate and lethal... or the Sword being more deadly?

Not to mention the way they are shown and constructed in Final Fantasy, it is held like a saw which means YOU WOULD BREAK YOUR WRIST TRYING TO USE IT.

The Gunblade and the stupidity that followed in its wake marked the slow and agonizing death of Square and their fall from being one of the worlds greatest game developers to being the worlds leader in Semi-Interactive Corridor Simulators.

Words truly cannot convey the amount of zealous hatred I have for Gunblades...

LOL...while I don't share quite as much animosity towards the gunblade (or Square), I do agree with the overall sentiment. Especially towards Square. Final Fantasy (on the nes) was one of my favorite childhood games. The last one I played was X though and I almost cried at what the series had turned into.

Thank god for western/eu developers!

Anyway, Gunblades actually exsist and I have myself already hold one with my own hands.
OF COURSE they are not that huge. It is a normal sized older gun combined with a slightly shorter than normal sabre.

I think the construction makes sense because you don't want to use guns in close combat ("Equilibrium" doesn't count here :P) but you might want to shoot your enemy before he get's close to you.^^
