Great Unreal Tournament mod. This was an awesome top-down sqaud based sci-fi shooter. The dev team, formerly of Black Cat Studios, got hired by Valve. they've been working on Left4Dead and Portal 2 the past few years, but they managed to come out with this game:

Ah well, I checked it out before and it did look very entertaining.

I think the first AS is the most addictive and fun mod I've ever played. Me and my friends could easily play it for 6 hours straight and still be super bummed when someone had to go.

It's so fun because it forces you to work together and an individual's mistakes can get the entire team killed. Even when everything goes to heck and everyone's dying, it's hilarious fun.
One of the key mechanics was that a player could get infested with this parasite. He would slowly lose life over time and if he died from the DoT he would spawn more parasites. Imagine us all on voice chat screaming "Kill me, kill me!" "no, I can heal you" "there's not enough time! just do it!", and we all get infested just due to the chaos even though we could have easily prevented it.

It's also an interesting game in that common sense and teamwork outweighs individual 'skill' by a mile. I could never get even halfway when playing with strangers online even though they had played far more than me, but playing with my friends who had just downloaded the game 20 minutes ago we had a ton more success and even completed some scenarios on first try.

Yeah, I can't wait to play this. It also looks like its not a pure top down, but a tad isometric, which is cool because i'm not really used to pure top down anymore lol.

I am so psyched for this. Full game code and dev kit included - gonna be some awesome mods. Funny thing is that this looks much better than L4D and L4D2 - and I paid for those :D

THe graphics in this really can't be compared to the left4dead series, as they're really two entirely different kinds of games. They both run on the source engine, so they have that in common, otherwise each has their own 'look' that fits that particular game well. Personally, I love the look of Left4dead2.

They have a really solid network, great support and uptime and they only charge $0.25 per slot.

That being Said, Steam has built in Voice Chat via the Steam UI for all games. Although the quality and ease is no where near that of Vent. Also it could be cool to have a Vent server for us to do other things in as well.

Yep, slot is the number of concurrent users. So for $2.50 you can have a cycling 10 people on at once.

Judging by the size of the Grim Dawn Community I would say a 15 or 20 person server would more than meet our needs while giving us a little head room.

I heard the game is 2.5GB too...normally not an issue for me (I have 16mbps connection) but if the download is slow gonna take a while.

So far the game is pretty good, lots of squad based tactics, friendly fire, all the classes have very unique rolls and the action is everything you would expect. Plus the engine looks great, really impressive for a free game.

Higher quality and lower footprint. You can quite literally have a hundred people in a single conversation with no delay, with better quality than the telephone and very little to no impact on your bandwidth usage.

Actually you can have group discussions, you just invite people to a group chat and then everyone Starts Voice Chat.

Have multiuser conversations all the time this way.

However the quality is a bit crap.

Fortunately unlike L4D Alien Swarm doesn't seem to care if you finish the campaign all in one go at a difficulty level, it keeps track of each map you have done and on what diff.
