Yes, finally, we've done it! After all of the posts, PMs, and emails we've gotten about this, we decided, yes, you're right, we REALLY needed to take a time out and get this going. :D
Now you can relentlessly annoy all your friends with the power of social network marketing!

Also notice the cute little badge in the news feed section of the home page.
Can this count as my dev blog update for June?! ;)

Probably not for a while. Given that we're still early in development, you can imagine the game is not often in a state worthy of videoing. Right now, for example, half the sounds are missing as we've started replacing all the original stand-in sounds and decided, while we were at it, that we might as well revise the whole directory structure.
Then there are still some animations that need to be cleaned up and armor re-rigged.
As soon as one thing gets put back together, another has been taken apart. Its just the way it goes during this phase of a project. While I want to get a video out to you guys, I also don't want to delay things people are working on and hold up development to do it.
I'd say it will be a month at the earliest, probably two, maybe three. I hope it will be earlier but I don't want to promise anything.

It's better not to promise anyway, but to take the time it needs to be done right. A new screen or two to appease the blood-driven mob wouldn't hurt though ;)

Well,....approximately.... then September is the month of pre-alpha gameplay video.
All right ! Good work needs time. We know. We like clean talk.
Keep up the great work! ;)
Good development 4 this f***ing summer!

I'm glad that lately you have been totally concentrated on development. Keep up the good work.
Aren't we have a flash video game designer here (I forgot who it is)? How about making simple hack and slash grim dawn in flash? Yeah, kill monster, random loot, random dungeon, linear story. :p

I just emailed Medierra yesterday about making a fan community page if they didn't have time to make an official one. Irregardless of personal feelings about the role of social media, or the actions taken by facebook, I do hope you can see how a business model such as Crate's with Grim Dawn can only benefit from exposure. The wider the name Grim Dawn is flung across the internet (specifically through social media and not traditional ad placement), the more money they are likely to gain and the better chances we all have of seeing private servers, more content and possibly even faster content if they earn enough to bring some more people on-board (hint :D).
This can only enrich the game.

Speaking purely for myself, I don't really want to be "Wow'ed" by a Video of chaotic action, I just want to see the world move and how the light is rendered.
There are just some things that cant be shown in a screenshot, I would be amazingly happy with just a Day to Night transition engine demo, seeing the shadows play out, how the lighting interacts with the models as well as seeing the new rotating camera in effect.
Nothing fancy, just an early alpha engine demo.

But a simple demo video of basic functions would be cool, too :) That is, if even the simple functions are implemented yet ;)

See, your first mistake is in assuming that the character's head is the same color as his body. This simply isn't true at the moment. :p
Basically, we're just in the middle of changing a lot of stuff and whenever you do that, weird little things happen that aren't really a big deal but just need to be cleaned up and would look extraordinarily silly in a video, even if the player was just standing still.

All I ask is that I not be asked to go to Facebook for updates or "exclusive content". I have absolutely no desire to visit that site, create an account, or do anything else in regards to it.
I understand, as a business, why you have opened the page. All I ask is that I not be asked to go there for something I can't see here. Never. I mean.. like ever. Thanks!! :D

Heh, don't worry, we're not trying to advertise Facebook, we're trying to advertise GD. Having people go to Facebook would be sending traffic in the wrong direction. :p

Heh, seriously? Not sure I understand why but I guess you can't do anything without pissing someone off. ;)
I mean give us a break here. This has no effect on anyone who isn't interested in Facebook. We're not making a Facebook game. There are 400,000,000 active users on Facebook, some of who are members of this forum and would like to follow the game there and be able to use it to help tell their friends about GD.
If you don't like Facebook, thats cool. To be honest, I'm not wild about it either but such is the way of things. To survive as a business, we have to follow the audience and, like it or not, a lot of them are Facebook users. Hey, Blizzard has their Facebook page. We don't have money for a big marketing campaign, so I think we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot by not utilizing the free marketing we can receive on Facebook.
A post I will never forget from shortly after TQ released went something like this: "Wow, where did this game come from?! I only heard about it because it was the top download on BitTorrent." I'd prefer not to repeat that if at all possible... I think lack of marketing, notably in North America, hurt TQ a lot more than piracy. :(
So common, can we still be friends? (you know, not Facebook friends obviously... no seriously, I didn't mean it that way!...) :p

Thanks for the clarification. I've just seen more and more where certain games require you to go to their facebook page to enter contests or view exclusive content and wanted to verify Crate wasn't looking to go in that direction. :D

I agree with this and completely understand why the facebook page was created. Sadly, I didn't hear about TQ until it had already become a budget title, although it was prior to the release of Immortal Throne. Taking advantage of any free publicity you can get is always a good idea. I dislike Facebook personally, but it certainly seems to make good business sense to have a presence there.

lol I didn't mean to offend. All power to you. I hope you get a lot of business from Facebook. :)
I just really dislike Facebook. It has a bad reputation that seems to be getting worse every day and with all the privacy issues in the media recently (and not to mention that you sign away any Copyright on anything you upload) it does more harm than good as far as I'm concerned.

HA! i just liked it and already got a txt message from my friend asking about the game LMAO..
it works... this is the best idea yet GO CRATE! gotta have a FB link page on the main site and not in a update bar so anyone that stumbles here can go there.... some people enjoy news from facebook, others websites and some still from a forum architecture.
Hitting all social hot spots is the best way to expand and move into different markets.
So happy you decided to move to Facebook. This is going to be great for the game!
