The very definition of liberal implies that they shouldn't care what books are written or read and by whom.
But seriously, lets not get into politics on these boards.

By the old and European definition of "liberal", yes. It is not true for the US definition though.

I only brought thisup because a woman kept 4 Gossip Girl books from being returned because of the graphicness. She accrued like almost 90 dollars and was being "harrassed" by the collection agency. Like if you do not want your kids to read them, fine. However, you do not get to parent the entire nation's kids.

You're so right.
It just really irks me. I know that I am able to be mature enough to differentiate the fictitious world I'm reading about from the one I live in.

I think censorship is wrong. I think being judgmental and jumping to conclusions because of someone's actions is also wrong. As such reading this thread physically pained me.

How am I jumping to conclusions?
Censorship must be.
I saw book "where from children come". For children. Written by pedophile. What do you think - need 5-7 years old know about 69, anal, and other "things"?
Also - trying to rewrite history. For example - WW2 and resuilts in Latvia, Estonia.

I say absolutely no way to censorship, it doesn't belong in the American way of life as it stands today.
To get back on topic, parents need to have a say in what their children see or read, but they should have no say in what other children's parents allow their kids to read, or watch.
end rant, personal opinion, please do not take it personal
If you think that know all, it means that information well hidden.©
For example - age requirements. Or Muhammed in South Park.
Try to laugh - games in Russia: http://lurkmore.ru/images/5/51/Copy.jpg
BTW, South Park series about closing "Terrens and Phillip" is good example - people must teach their children, not books, TV or games.
PS: learn English more in quests than in school.

Having a "skeleton in your closet" means you have some secret, usually shameful or otherwise particularly nasty, that you want to keep hidden.

My point in saying what I did goes back to being a parent of two adults and a toddler. It is I and my wife's responsibility to police my children not the government, not the noisy ass neighbor next door with the skeletons in her closest, not the EU, not the holier than thou, etc...etc..etc...
I agree that some form of censorship should exist in banning books written by pedophiles and such, however; then you start picking at clauses and next thing you know we have full on censorship of everything.
Take a look at China for example. Censors the hell out of the internet and such, yet crazy bastards are attacking school children with machetes and knives a few times a week. But don't you dare even think of expanding your horizons by reading anything from the Western civilized nations. Yet, 90% of our shit comes from China and the USA alone is so far in debt to China that if they tried to collect on it today, we would be bankrupt. There is some news you don't learn on national television. Anyway, I went way off base a bit sorry.
I can only hold others responsible for their actions that are knowingly hurtful or damaging to my children. It is my job to decide what is acceptable reading material for my children, not anyone else. DON'T TREAD ON ME! EXCELSIOR!

I couldn't agree more.
But I would also like to point out that many forms of absolute trash gets protected when it shouldn't (child pornography, homosexual art with sodomy being portrayed and etc, as well as propaganda).
While I don't approve of censorship, there needs to be some kind of a line.
You wouldn't want to protect every piece of trash that comes out just to exercise anti-censorship attitude, yet you don't want to go overboard & start censoring every little thing either just because some moron takes offense to some petty little thing. There needs to be some boundaries.
I myself have seen some pretty sick things get protected on the basis of anti-censorship principles, yet other things get banned or totally thrown out of perspective because some fool took offense and considered something racist, sexist, homophobic, or what have you and then it was okay to censor that.
I've seen way too many double standards with little common sense practiced.

I read a book with that exact title when I was 6 years old.... :p
It wasn't written by a pedophile though, and didn't go in to details a lot apart from 'the man likes the woman a lot, so he lays himself down on top of her'
It also said that in 100% of the cases they take a bath together first...
