Anyone else having fun with this game? It's definitely not perfect and could have a more PC friendly interface, but overall I think it's pretty good. I've gotten Roland and Lilith to level 50 so far, with Brick at level 39 and Mordecai at level 36.

I've also played the Zombie Island DLC and it was ok, but too short. Only barely worth the $10 they want for it. I'm really looking forward to the next DLC (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6248492.html?tag=latestheadlines;title;5) though.

I like the new expansion with moxxie, it's really fun. The zombie one was silly, but I didn't mind it. The game itself was really fun, but the lack of "uniques" and armor, kinda threw me off, but I also don't see the point in the second playthrough. I stopped after the first with Roland.

The game was awesome initially but got old fast. It was more fun with friends but it felt like a bit of a novelty game. I fell in love with the concept and they did it well, but it didn't retain my attention for as long as I thought

Same here.

It was an awesome game, with beautiful stylistic art, but little replay value. Environments and enemies all looked the same. The skill system was a big letdown, especially since there was only one active skill. No armors.

Still, fun to see enemies die in different and gruesome ways. And the weapons were quite interesting as well. The gameplay itself was also quite fun. Perhaps with the DLC's some of the monotomous problems are solved..

I think it is a great game also. I wish there was more variety though. You are constantly fighting the same enemies over & over again, and a lot of the bosses are just bigger versions of the regular enemies. And the playable characters leave a lot to be desired. Still, it is fun finding new & cooler weapons at a constant rate. The quests are also decent, & keep the game from getting too stale.

As for the Zombie Island expansion....I absolutely loved it. I thought it was great. Can't wait to go through it again. I just can't get enough zombie mayhem.

Borderlands had a huge deal of potential, which was squandered by Gearbox, and the art style/world setting was plagiarized from Codehunters. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmeP1YkaeTo)

I was so looking forward to Borderlands, played the hell out of it for about 3 weeks and now no one I know will even touch it.

:(

Gearbox also made some really odd decisions, like New Haven loot farming. Why does a town have better loot than the bosses?

Hm, that does seem like plagiarism. Although I doubt if Codehunters were the first to use such a style, there's a huge overlap between BL and that short.

Wow...if I had no idea what the was and someone told me it was from some Borderlands DLC I would probably believe it. The bus scene at the beginning...heck..even the character arch-types are VERY similar.

Holy crap, it's almost exactly the same!...

"I would like to thank news sites who chose to share the awesome work in Code Hunters with their readers. It's great content and one can no doubt imagine that a number of artists and designers at Gearbox were inspired and influenced by it. It was inspiring to me when "The Incredibles" was clearly a big source of influence for titles like Battlefield Heroes and Team Fortress 2 (and other amazing games and media). Perhaps with more attention from gaming news sites and other sources, Code Hunters can be more respected and honored for their innovation and leadership in CG as well. Maybe I'm too optimistic to believe that Code Hunters can get as much attention as Pixar (with due respect I believe they deserve), but with the help of gaming news sites and others who care about great content, maybe more people can notice and recognize and, perhaps, be inspired by it."

So... "influenced" means.... rerender the intro as a tribute...? *shrug*

That would so make a cool game, better than BL imo. Although, smacking a huge bullet with a hammer to deflect it... kinda ridiculous.

Damn... that is AMAZINGLY similar o_o

I'd say this influenced Borderlands a lot, especially the intro seems to match up almost exactly

The creators of Codehunters were never credited in Borderlands, no one from Codehunters worked on Borderlands and Codehunters won a Prix Ars Electronica award for Computer Animation/Visual Effects in 2007, which is quite a while before the well known and publicized "Change in art direction" that Borderlands underwent.

Gearbox acknowledged that some of their artists were "Inspired by works like Codehunters" but that's a far cry from scrapping all the art you have done for a game, and spending the next year trying to replicate the aesthetic of a relatively obscure animated short... and directly ripping the intro.

I really, really loved the world setting for Borderlands, great humor, great presentation but even I have to bow my head and admit that Gearbox found far more in Codehunters than "Inspiration."

Is that why the cell shaded look was applied to Borderlands ?
I remember the graphics used to look normal in early video & pictures, but they changed the art style to the cell shaded look.

Very interesting.

only weapons and shields are lootable...

no other type of equipment unfortunately

problem:

-lack of different type of equipment in BORDERLANDS...
-not too interesting skills
-not too repetitive...
-more fps than rpg
-weak close combat

Also for a game with apparently "Billions of guns" they are all a bit samey.

True, I'd be happy with fewer drops if they were higher quality guns instead of the crap you usually get.

Also I think the simplification of having no 'armor' and such was a good idea. The way they did it also solves the loot sharing problem pretty well as each class has a preferred gun to use.

I was addicted to game... for a while but like it's been stated, it didn't really hold my attention for too long. Still, it's a promising new IP and I'm interested in what they come out with next.

In my opinion, I think they decided to change the art style to something that aged better and stood out more from what you typically see in some of that were out at the time as it was a new IP and definitely needed the art change to stand out in a crowd of the many series with a "modern" realistic graphics style that already had an install base. The game Brink also had a similar style that helped it stand out, of course it wasn't as successful as it could have been, but the art style helped. Also having the art style they ended up with really helped for creating some of the ridiculous looking weapons and enemies they came up with. It was great for their creativity. Just my thoughts on it.

Personally I loved the game, but like many have already stated it got a bit stale after awhile due to the lack of variation in environment and enemies. Also a lot of the weapons felt the same but with slight variations and not enough uniques which we all love in a loot-filled ARPG. I'm hoping Borderlands 2 solves a lot of these issues, as it seems to so far at least for weapon styles, environment, and enemy types.

I just started again using WillowTree to create ammo regen class mods and some really nice guns. Plus I maxed my money pool. This way I am speeding through the game, not picking up much and having a lot of fun trying to do quests that my quest log tells me are impossible due to being so under-leveled. The caveat is that you can really only do the main questline. But I am aiming for some fun in the DLC after playthrough 2.

Beyond modding the save files with WillowTree, I am not aware of any mods. Would be very please to find out about them though if they exist. I have seen some stuff on youtube with maps that have no textures and some crazy rooms full of badasses, but I have no idea how they were made.

Steam has this on sale for 75% off... (Entire game set is 75% off and you can just get the individual game/expansions at 75% off or buy em all at once.)

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition: $7.49
This weekend only T_T If I did not get sick when playing FPS games I would get it lol.

EDIT: Sale is over and gone.

I was a big fan of the game, too. But, as others mentioned, it got stale a little quick. I thought the expansions were pretty awful, though. Everytime I've stopped playing, it's been because of one of them. Just very, very tedious stuff in there, even if I really loved some of the ideas.
