Sooo as some of you might know, i bought a new place
And i live in quebec city, so currently irene's passing through, just heavy rain as well as strong winds.
What i,m ranting about?
with the power irene's packing atm, since my constructor did not do his job properly, my windows are leaking, and guess what i,m single so i,ll be up all night getting towels dry and keeping my floor dry...
Yay looks like a promising night... at least ive got a few energy drinks in the fridge

It's gotta suck having to soak up all that water. Hopefully you won't need to redo your walls and floor because of water damage.

Many contractors don't do their jobs very well.
I used to be in construction before I injured my back, and I've heard numerous horror stories, as well as watch the show "Holmes on Homes", where this contractor basically goes in & fixes other contractor's messes.
Even on my Mother's home, some supposed contractor came in to add a bedroom, and most of the work was sub-standard. The insulation was in backwards, the piping for the plumbing wasn't up to code, and the roof leaked, and the air ducts were done all wrong.
However where I live we just have to worry about earthquakes, and not hurricanes.

well its not that bad since i noticed it,
i mean in quebec city we dont have to deal with hurricanes nor earthquakes really, all we have to deal with is bloody winter.. and trust me we get ALOT of snow...
To give you an idea, every year we get about 6 feet of snow acumulated on house lot.. which means we have much more snowfall than that. its usually taller than i am, so shoveling it all up blows balls
But yeah, all irene's doing here is huge winds (about 75 km/h) and heavy rainfall (about 50 mm overnight)... the combination of the two is making my windows leak, thats still no excuse but yeah.. blows
And it wont harm my floors as i said since i noticed early, so i,m switching towels every 45 min or so, which is why i cant go to bed.
As for construction, shawn yeah i know, i work with them, i install create and program various security systems for excavators, loaders, boom trucks, and other heavy machienery... currently working on a GPS depth indicator / positionning system kind of... so yeah i deal with them bastards everyday

Wait... what does this "being single" have to do with having to be up all night getting towels dry?
Also, that sucks, just moving in some place new only for it be hit by those storms.

well being single implies that i have to stay up, being in a couple woulda been able to take shifts :P haha i was just ranting
but yeah, was a long night, my floor and my place is fine, but annoying nonetheless

Just out of curiosity - is the leak in the panes, or around the window sills / boxes themselves? The second will require much more work to fix which is why I ask... hope you took pictures if you want the contractor to foot the bill....

oh its in the works, its actually, i dont know exactly how its called in english, although in french its "coupe froid" wich is the kind of silicony rubber band all around the window.
Near the bottom, where the window handle is, its actually either missing or ripped apart, which is where the water was coming in from.
As for the door, misplaced rubber ring on the handle and poorly made anti water protection at the bottom.
The contractor already knows about it and is to be solved this week. while this sucks, the good side is that the building is still being constructed, and will be probably for the next few months, and after that they are nexdoor behind my building, so they have to fix their mess :D
