View Full Version : Sniping Hounds

Behold, my mighty crossbow of zapping and poisonization! Okay, so maybe that isn't the real name and maybe the electrical dmg actually comes from a necklace but, hey, this is a dramatization... As you can see, I've scored a hit on a Rifthound as it charges across a plank-bridge and my charged necklace has triggered delivering bonus electrical damage. I started shooting them when they were way off to the left of the screenshot but Rifthounds are fast... very fast. You can see the front of the pack is already across the river and about to circle around behind me. Of course, also behind me is a row of thermite mines. :p

Nice weather effects. I hope you didn't forget your raincoat.

ohhh, beautiful! :)

I hope you've got a melee-weapon close by then.. :)

EDIT: apparently you do, since there's a dead "dog" right behind you.. :P

Awesome screen shot! Thanks for the update Medierra!

Those weather effects are beautiful.

The reflections in the water, the atmospheric fog, crisp textures, combined with varied land that really gives it a detailed and cared for feeling, this game is looking better every day. Really guys, you are doing an amazing job!

Daaayum!

Simply beautiful.

The river edge on the right side of the screen shot though, just above the rocks, it looks a bit sharp with how it meets the land. Or is it just me

You continue to tease in the best way. Every screen shot makes me want this game more.

Is that water or fog (or both) rolling down that path under the bridge?

The environment looks beautiful indeed. The rain and fog, reflection of distorted images in the water, the swampy scenery.

I'm disappointed, I came to see dogs sniping.

That was my first impression, too.

The weather and object reflection effects look fantastic. As for the mutated mutts, those look great also.

Apart from all the beauty and tactical aspects - you obviously improved the enemys' pathing. I ambushed an enemy camp in TQ recently and they all ran forth and back as in a frenzy and didn't find a way to strike back. Worst of all it ruined the performance ... worse than a flip-book. So, kudos for more dangerous enemies.

Absolutely gorgeous environment. It really IS haunting and very well detailed. This game is looking better with like every screenshot, or something. :p

Very cool! Are the thermite mines visible in this shot or are they off screen somewhere?

What do thermites mine for anyway? Thilver?

I thought they only ate wooden thtuff.

Absolutely beautiful! Serene and haunting at the same time. I'm guessing it's not quite so serene while playing though, being concerned about getting eaten by those creepy freaking hounds!

I just noticed that this, and the last screenshot or the inventory, are the first ones to be in widescreen in a year! I do believe that makes the fourth resolution that has been used on screenshots so far :p

You can say the same about how the rock (to the right of the character) stands out from the ground - neither dirt nor any vegetation - the precise edges look unnatural. From a slightly different context, but certainly applicable:
Those are the kind of thing that we typically polish up in our final pass. Right now we're just trying to get all the content in place.

This happens when you apply fog-effects. I have seen this in many many games that the normally soft transition, which is in the end just a texture, gets overlayed with the fog so you see the full texture when it would normally be transparent.

This is at least how I think it happens/works. Ofc I have no actual idea because I am not a game-designer. :D

It seems to me like this is one of those things you notice when sitting comfortably in your room looking at an image, but when you're actually there in the marshes, fighting against hellhounds (i.e. playing the game), I don't think a lot of people would catch that :). Only if it's near a health bar.

I thought I was going to see some sweet gun play when I clicked on this threat and I will gladly admit I was not disappointed. I have now had my fill of sniping hounds and hounds that snipe, this thread has definitely made my day. A round of applause for everyone involved. :D

The screenshot does look amazing, as always. I can't wait for the alpha to come along.

You can get a stripped lower for 150$ or so. That's the part of the AR that needs to be registered as a firearm. Then you can buy it a piece or two at a time. That's how I'm going to build mine, anyway. It keeps you from dropping over a grand in one sitting and allows you to build it however you'd like.

I don't hunt or kill anything. I just enjoy target shooting. I also enjoy the responsibility of having a firearm that I take care of. I understand the functionality of firearms the same way others understand cars or computer hardware (another interest of mine). If you haven't been target shooting, I highly recommend it. Its one of those things you don't truly understand until you do it. Its also usually a social event for me. Other people go to ball games. I go with some friends to the range, fire off a few hundred rounds, and then go home and hang out with them while we dis-assemble and clean everything.

Its the irresponsible rednecks that give safe, law-abiding gun owners (like myself) a bad name.

Yep, we do. Got a reputation to uphold. Being a sun-burned blue collar worker who happens to own a firearm and uses it for more than shooting paper is serious business... :p

that is truely one epic screenshot, and makes me want the game so badly, it certainly looks like you have improved the engine by a lot, juding from the screenshots so far, utter awesome, and nice that the enemy has a decent pathing AI, which is a let down in some games

But I was wondering, did you manually adjust the camera down slightly, or is that the default setting of the camera?

Where the hell this dog did get the rifle from? :D
Great thread.
