I have been wondering about the variety of skills in Grim Dawn.
That also got me thinking about the kind of skills that I think are the most fun and the answer I came up with was:

Movement skills

Things like teleporting, running charges and other things that let you move about the battle field in interesting ways. I like them because they really spice up combat and really help differentiate one class from another.

Some ideas for skills would be:

Teleporting, like phantom strike in TQ

Running charge, like Take Down also TQ

Leap attack, like the Barbarian skill in D2

Burrowing, with this skill would click once to go into the ground and as you move through the earth it would drain mana, then you would click again and burst out with an attack to hit enemies above you.

Grappling, this skill would pull enemies to you and then you would bash them in the face! As the skill gets more powerful it's range and damage would increase.


What do you guys and gals think about movement skills? And do you have any cool ideas for other skills?

I like the ideas, since as you said it differentiates between classes and also provides them with different tactical approaches.

You can crib quite a lot of ideas from other genre games, like even fighting games. Modified to fit this game's needs of course. Most of them generally involve some kind of auto movement towards the target and executing some flashy animation with effects though.

yes yes yes! i was literally just about to start a thread about this when i found you already had!

movement based skills would be excellent, i was just thinking a teleport and an evasive roll would be good, but burrowing and grappling could be lots of fun. you could use 'trap' skills to grapple an enemy and pull them into your trap. it could also work in reverse, where you would be pulled to the enemy to deliver a high impact hit.

imagine, if you will, this combo:
1.Lay trap
2.Grapple enemy into trap
3.Hit enemy with knockback weapon
4.Grapple yourself into the enemy for a critical hit
5.Shout "Booyeah suckah!"
6.Ignore odd looks you get from anyone within shouting distance
