Sound issues..

Hey ive got a question for you guys, ive done my research and well lets see what yas think about it..

I own a logitech Z-5500

When i press the "Test" button on the remote, everything works fine..

full surround system, when i use the optical input, everything works (for blue ray and crap)
when i use the coax input everything works fine as welll

In the PC input, everything works fine... in most cases.. like for instance, on SC2 i have surround sound, while in oblivion and recently mass effect 2 (not 1) i dont.. and it pisses me off

my comp is more than enough to handle today's standards...
(going on top of my head here im not home)
ive got 8gb of ram kingston
A AMD dual core at 3.3 ghz.. ?
Nvidia 240HD silent
Motherboard is AMD as well
and yadi yadi yada..

Although im using the On Board Sound card, Realtek HD because well.. it was more than enough until now.

It should be noted that of course, all drivers are up to date and that it is only in specific cases that i dont get surround sound.

though i need and want my surround sound haha, i love music and crap and pisses me off when its coming out in stereo.. ESPECIALLY in gaming.

Ive done research and crap, i seem to not be the only one with this issue and everything seems to point out it is a compatibility issue...

So i was going to get myself a new sound card i was lookin at creative X-FI titanium HD... money isnt an issue, i get pretty damn good prices i know a guy who owns a store which normally sells for companies only.. so i get a discount + no tax :D shhhhhhh (paid cash haha)

but i wanted to know, yas got any more ideas.. or maybe any personal experience with X-FI, suggestions?

some games don't have or support surround sound,

PS what OS are you using? if you are using windows XP, there is a fix to get ME working with 5.1, however, if you are using vista and windows 7, then those OS's only support openAL as M$ shafted creative as M$ dropped all support for EAX from those two OS's so any game that support EAX won't work in vista and win 7, you have to revert back to software sound, or using openAL and then you need a game that supports both

so what you maybe experiencing, if you are using win 7 or vista, is a bad M$ decision

if you are still on XP, then you can follow this guide to get EAX / 5.1 working

hope that helps

im under windows 7 64 bits

BUT ME1 is working fine with surround...
Not ME2 nor Oblivion

and from the research ive done people have it work (surround in ME2) under win 7 with a creative X-FI Titanium pro

i mean i could always play under 6 direct channel but.. not as fun

sorry, I mis read your post, ok this is strange then

however, regarding oblivion, now that I know that's the game you are having issues with, it a buggy game, and there are plenty of google results about oblivion having problems with sound

so its both sound effects and music that is effected? if its one or the other, then maybe the sound files are damaged, but as you also having issues with mess effect 2. it could be a onboard card issue, do you have openAL installed? as I said, its the only thing that really works now, as EAX is dead, as MS killed it off sadly

otherwise no idea

do you have any other games that uses 5.1 for you to test?

ive got plenty of games working perfectly under 5.1 such as starcraft 2
or any other shooter for that matter

As far as oblivion goes, its kind of both, weird to explain, sometime i get some sound coming out of my back speakers sometimes none..
Especially voices, like if i face a character i'll hear him perfectly, i turn around (so he speaks to my back kinda) and i get no sound at all, no voices.

I also often get my sound to stop, dunno for instance, lets say im casting a spell over and over, it eventually stops doing any sound effect, akwardly enough.

And playing sound in 6 channel direct works fine, but thats obvious...

its looking towards hinting to be a compatibility issue as ive done some research as well but i'm not 100% sure.

i was already planning on getting a sound card but still if i could fix this would be great!...

The price i got atm is a Creative X-FI Titanium HD PRO gaming edition for 100$ cash, its like 170 on their website + taxes... which where i live are 15 freaking % haha

Those are the only two games that i remember having an issue with, rest works perfectly... i even tried unplugging my blueray and other devices see if it was that, and not even.

i usually play on my tv sitting on bed with keyboard and crap, unless i gota be quick haha but that isnt an issue, its fun as hell :P

Just to let yas know, so if anyone googles this or whatever, my problem is fixed... though may not have been the cheapest way still...

Was using onboard RealTek HD sound with RealTek drivers (tried drivers from other brands wouldnt work)

I bought a Creative Titanium Fatal1ty pro and just by switching to it, with the apropriate drivers, everything now works fine. :D
