Do either Risen, Gothic 3, or Oblivion have an item game that is similar to Diablo or Titan Quest? What I mean is, monsters actually drop gear (and not meat or whatever) and there are a lot of different kinds of gear and a lot of different random mods that can roll on the gear. Are there even different rarities of items in these games? I was thinking about purchasing one, but if the gear isn't interesting, I may not.

I do not believe any of these games have a randomized loot system. Borderlands is the only non isometric style game with a randomized loot system that I'm aware of. I've not played Risen or Gothic 3, so I'll let someone else say for sure.

Isometric (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isometric_projection) may not mean what you think it means :)
I think Arcania has some more random droppings (not sure), but neither game comes close to stuff as TQ, D2 or Borderlands.
They're much slower games that are based on telling a story to the player, rather than the action packed hack'n slash games that are focussed on building up a strong toon.

I was referring to isometric game engines. Most of the games that emphasize loot that I'm aware of would fit this category such as Titan Quest, Diablo 2, Sacred, Loki, Etc.

Isometric projection used in Video Games. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_games_with_isometric_graphics)

I haven't played Oblivion, but if gear drops are important, then stay far away from Gothic 3 and Risen. Only weapons are dropped and loot is only found in chests. Getting a better armor is actually a big event and are bought/given by NPC's.

A proper name of the genre is loot-em-up (good term for googling), you also might want to check this thread (http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=965&highlight=games+Diablo) if you're looking for games similar to TQ/D2.

Yeah, it's just been so long since I've played an RPG that didn't fall under the loot-em-up category that I was wondering if I was missing out. But from what people have said in this thread, I know my tastes well enough that I should probably just stick to what I've been doing. For months and months I've just been switching back and forth between D2, TQ, TL, Din's Curse, and Borderlands. I'm not complaining by any means, but it will be nice when those newfangled ARPGs of 2011 start getting released.
If every RPG had an item system that revolved around multiple mods, rarities, and randomization, I'd probably die of lack of sleep and dehydration at my keyboard anyway. ;)
