SUCKS.
lol.
Yeah, so I've been working at the front desk of a cell phone store cause my boss, the guy who's SUPPOSED to be in the front, is sick. So I'm stuck watching the whole store, controlling everything, doing my job AND his.
Well, I hate it lol. I applied for a COMPUTER TECHNICIAN position, and that's what I want to do, this phone crap is pissing me off. People come in and start yelling at me cause MY BOSS told them he'd get them this or do this and that, and he's not here. So they yell at me, they get pissed, they throw their phone across the room.
My response to most of them, yes, I know, and I'm really sorry for that, but I wish he was here too cause I'm supposed to be working on fixing peoples computers but I can't cause I have to do his job, not to mention he needs to freaking pay me for a month and half of work.
SO want to quit, this job is killing my free time, and it doesn't even reward me. I originally said I was gonna stay cause I needed the money and the references/experience...but maaaan this is a nightmare, it's way too much work dealing with some of these people.

The worst job I ever had in my entire life was a customer service lead at Circuit City. Had people throw cell phones at me, curse me out, cry (literally) to the store manager, and all sorts of other bullshit.
Something is seriously wrong with society that people think getting their 6 month old product returned (even though it's always a 30 day return policy) is worth berating another human being just trying to do their job.
The only job I ever walked out on...just got fed up and told my manager to find someone else halfway through my shift.

Seriously man, its horrible. People will yell at me, ME, for stuff I didn't do! I should yell back and be like man, it's your fault I'm not getting paid!!! I didn't make the damn phone, nor did I sell it to you. NO, I didn't tell you on Saturday that I would have it on Monday. I didn't even come in on Saturday! That's the other guy, who is SICK, and I have NO control over the freaking weather, SORRY GUYS.
I can't stand customer service, I just wanna fix computers for now! Just come here, pay your bills and don't ask me stupid questions please.

At my work, we just hired the IT-support guy for the institute and a lot of the CVs listed experience in phone stores. But you move on, you need XP and you gotta get it somewhere. But yeah cell phones are crappy hardware sold to the masses and many of those masses are not even trained to use a toaster.
Good Luck. Stick it out. CVs are hurt by anything less than 1 year. People skills is what you put under it. Lie and say that that entry level job taught you people skills.

And now, getting cursed out and threatened by a guy in a wheelchair cause the counters are over 36 inches, so he refuses to do business... after I tell him 5 times it's not my store, I don't own it, I just work here, and this store has had this counter for 30 years (it used to be a bank).
Not my week.
And jiaco, thanks for the support, but really, I can't do this for a year. I'm gonna have to find a way into Staples or something, this is ridiculous.

Obviously, it's the best job in the world [...] take a vacation whenever you want, don't show up to do your job [...] anyone seen Clerks? :D Did you recommend Clerks to your boss?

I've had it with my job too. The problem is that I don't get yelled at to my face, but instead behind my back to other people. :furious:
I can handle getting yelled at by the boss, because she puts me in situations that cannot be helped or improved by me or anyone, and so I can honestly tell her that she is going about things the wrong way and that what does she expect me to do? Of course she can't give me any type of helpful criticism at all, its just complaining & nagging about one thing or another that no-one can possibly do the way she wants.
For example. I only work part time in a kitchen at a pre-school and work 15 hours per week. I used to work four days of the week (mon thru thurs). All of a sudden she decides she wants me to work five days instead of four (mon thru friday), but still only work 15 hours for the week, but still do the same amount of work. That means that I have to work fewer hours a day (roughly 3) and waste more time & money to come in, but still do all the work required of me. She is constantly complaining that I am taking too long to get food ready. I have literally 45 minutes to prepare food for over 85 children that cover 4 completely different rooms. Set the tables, put the food out in each room with multiple serving bowls and etc. 45 minutes tops.
She complains, tells me that she could do it faster, but when I call her on it so that she can show me then of course she never does.
She is always giving me a real hard time. Normally we get food daily. It covers lunch & breakfast. Every once in a while when there is a 4 day holiday (off Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun) she decides to call it in so that they can deliver all the food for those 3 and a half days in advance. So the Friday before we get food for friday, monday, tues, & weneday. This is a major pain for me. keep in mind that I have only 3 hours per day to clean up, get lunch prepared, put all othe stuff away, and clean up after lunch (wash dishes for 80+ kids) all by myself. One day I got fed up and asked the delivery guy why he does this? He says because my boss wanted it that way. I say, "Oh really?" So I go over to her office to ask why she keeps doing that? She tries to lie to me and tell me that they would be closed and they have to. I tell her how I just talked to the delivery guy and how he said the opposite, and how they are open but she herself requested it be done that way. She acts stupid on me telling me she doesn't know what's going on then.
Later on the delivery guy comes back because he needed to pick up some of the empty containers that the food came in, and he tells me that my boss yelled at him and told him that he "does not take orders from the guy in the kitchen (me), and that I am just some guy that works in the kitchen." Now what was that for, seriously?
I don't know what her problem is, but she has gone through a lot of teaching staff & secretaries. She gets a ton of complaints but they will not fire her. It really pisses me off that she lies to my face, lies behind my back, talks about me to other staff behind my back, and basically won't give me the common courtesy to let me know whats going on. She is making my life miserable, but I am just a part-time temporary employee, who she has complained of replacing many times already. Without this job it will be hard to find something. Unemployment is very high where I live, which is just a stone's throw away from the Mexico border.

Not even man, most of my issues come from middle aged women and black guys.
Nothing against either one, that just seems to be where the problem is. I love the black customers, they're always really nice until they want something free(not trying to be racist, this just happened.).
eisprinzessin, how many of my posts did you have to search for to make that quote, jesus. I should recommend clerks, but I'd rather quit because this is ridiculous to have ONE person in charge of everything like this, especially when I'm trained in something else entirely.
And shawn... I'll read your post when I'm having a better day, there's too much wall in that post.

Can we have a definition of what a middle aged woman is? Just an age range, please before I bust an artery and my eyeballs pop clear out of my head and I start ranting and raving about young whipper snippers and boys who can't handle themselves let alone a woman :: grin ::
Seriously though, I have problems with my middle aged boss. She's a squat, wire haired creature with thick calves rolling up into meaty thighs. I can feel the world shake when she moves my way, stomaches flapping and beady little eyes squinting behind a pair of scratched glasses framed by a unibrow with longer hair than the patches of fur on her hobbit feet.
Ever since I figured out that after all the over-time she does she actually makes 5$ less than me an hour and has tripple the responsibility I've been primping about the office as though I was the rocket scientist despite her Master's Degree.
Still, as far as troll's go she's easily distracted by shouting, "Oh my god! Who brought the shellfish to the office.... "

This has to be one of the most grotesque images in my mind, ever...
And by middle aged woman, I don't care about age or whatever. It's just by how they act and how old they appear/act. You KNOW them when you see them lol

I hear ya about middle aged women, I worked 2 years at a YWCA back in the early 90's and I will never ever work for women again. Back stabbing and infighting just nasty. Of course the best option is owing your own business and then you can bitch at the boss all you want.:p
Hehe. Well, I was just asking because I'm pretty sure that I'm technically at least close to the point of being grouped in the 'middle' range, however I am immature for my age, I don't wear polyester, smurf blu, or shirts with bold leaf/flower/bingo patterns on them. Yet.
And you're right about working with women- being a woman, I'd sooner shove a pig on a spit with an applie in its mouth, up my nose and rotate it than to have to endure the constant bickering, back stabbing, fluffy emo drama stuff.
However, the best revenge is finding a better pair of shoes.

Never understood the whole shoe fetish, and yes me and my wife are in our mid 30's. My wife likes her purses lol, I suppose its along the same lines. When she was diagnosed with cancer she only uses one purse now, her breast cancer purse. All of her other purses went into storage or Goodwill, which was pretty surprising. Now shes into crafts, building her a craftroom atm (taking away from my modding time grrr but I do respect her hobby, and she respects mine). Her whole thing is to make stuff and donate part of the profits to a breast cancer outfit.
Back to the retail thing....I owned a moving buisness for 10 years, moved people all over the US. Middle age women are the WORSE. You can not imagine the mental state of a woman who's prized possessions are being packed up by a stranger to be driven across the country LOL. I have been yelled at, had sh^& thrown at me, been called just about every name under the sun, all for no reason other than fear of damage to furniture, or the new McMansion I'm moving her into. Also found a few dildo's under the bed that sent them off LOLOLOL not kidding here either, found a gay porn stash one time too that the hubby had and wife didn't know about, lots of yelling. Ugh soccer moms, hate them, glad I am out of the business. Especially glad to have gotten out before the housing crash and fuel increases.

/run on sentences off (lol)
This topic could give me nightmares!
Seriously guys! I would be terrible as a front desk job: I tried hotel receptionist and almost died of stress attacks, haha! I am a very nervous person, not mentioning I have had some sort of phone phobia since childhood, so all those front desk jobs drive me nut. I'm not a people person, it's very simple, I don't know how to handle people, nor problems...Then why the heck am I working as a professor this year? :D

I've never worked retail, but dealing with customers that are (angry) drunks is possibly the worst. At least they're rare!
