In Titan Quest, you had a choice.
"Are you a boy, or are you a girl?" Is what it was. You chose the burly man or the slender woman. You got to choose what color your tunic was.
The idea was simple: Everyone looks the same until you find uniques. But it feels a bit dated now, and I think simply customization should be offered for the way your character looks. Make them taller or shorter, the color of their hair as well as the tunic, a general 'build' slider, and a bit of choice of what clothing to wear underneath your armor. This would help make you feel connected to your character a little bit more than in Titan Quest.
What's more, if it it would be possible, changing the color of your clothes and generally making them stand out even more would help differentiate between characters. TQ did a lot of that well, I must say, but giving people the choice to play with a hue slider and make your character a little more custom isn't even that hard to make, I reckon, and it could help those people who like to roleplay. Adjusting the color on your fighter's helmet to red while wearing mostly blue clothes might look mighty odd, but that's a bit of charm I think the game could use, even though the title is "Grim Dawn."
Of course, I could be blathering here, and the game already manages to make your character look original already. ;)
